Overall purpose:
Waddesdon Manor is a historic house open to the public near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
Created by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild from 1874 and set in a Grade 1 listed garden, it is
home to the Rothschild Collection and was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1957. Today it
is managed by a Rothschild charitable trust, The Rothschild Foundation, and welcomes in the
region of 350,000 visitors annually. It is home to the Rothschild Collection, a world-class
collection of fine and decorative arts assembled by 3 generations of the family, and runs a
varied public events, schools, and exhibitions program, including a popular Christmas Season,
The Housekeeping Assistant (HA) role within the Housekeeping department works closely with
the Head of Housekeeping, 2 x Housekeeping Supervisors and within a team of 4 Housekeeping
Assistants.
The HA is responsible for ensuring consistent and thorough cleaning of visitor and staff areas
and accommodation across the operation, maintaining high standards and making most
efficient use of the staffing resource. This full time position also provides additional support for
residential properties across the site, as is expected to maintain high standards of excellence,
integrity and discretion in servicing these properties.
Key responsibilities:
- Responsibilities for this role will require working on your own throughout the shift. The main
areas of responsibility for the Housekeeping Assistant are as follows:
- Cleaning allocated areas to the highest possible standard at Waddesdon Manor and
associated buildings, as set out by the Head of Housekeeping & Supervisors
- Ensuring that the presentation of the areas for which they are responsible is to the
highest standard
- Throughout the day, continuously checking the Public Toilets. This involves ensuring
toilet rolls & paper towels are always available. Floors are always clean and soap
dispensers are topped up.
- Deep clean both buildings at Windmill Hill on a Sunday, providing no event is on. Subject
to change at any time.
- This full time post will also be required to cover the annual leave of the housekeeper
for the London offices in St James’s Place. Travel expenses will be paid and full training
will be provided to cover this area.
- Regular cleaning of private residential properties at the Waddesdon estate as directed
by the Head of Housekeeping
- If appropriate, during the absence of another Housekeeping Assistant, covering that
Housekeeping Assistant’s areas of responsibility in addition to their own, in agreement
with the Head of Housekeeping & Supervisors
- Ensuring that the cleaning stock cupboards are properly stocked
- Reporting any maintenance or security issues to the Head of Housekeeping &
- Supervisors- Present a friendly and welcoming manner to all visitors during the course of the day.
You should be able to assist visitors with good general knowledge in order to provide
suggestions and directions if required.
- Develop excellent working relationships with all departments and ensure that
communications are efficient and friendly. ,
- Occasional evening events will require you to be flexible. Notice will be provided and
TOIL given for additional hours worked.

Terms & Conditions
Contract type:
Permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week) Wednesday to Sunday. Minimum 37.5 hours per
week on a rolling rota system, to include weekends, bank holidays and evenings. Working days
are dictated by events and the requirements of the business.
**Salary**: £22,308 per annum
Holiday: From start date, 33 days (including public holiday)
After three full years of service: 36 days (including public holidays)
After five full years of service: 38 days (including public holidays)
After ten full years of services: 40 days (including public holidays)
