Waddesdon is a Rothschild house and gardens set in the Buckinghamshire countryside just outside
Aylesbury. It was created for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild in the 1870s. Now owned by the National
Trust, but managed by a family trust (the Rothschild Foundation), it remains the epitome of
‘Rothschild style’.
Visitors today can still see Ferdinand’s unrivalled collections of decorative arts and paintings,
alongside contemporary art, and wander in the immaculate gardens. There is also a working aviary,
wine cellars, shops, restaurants and a woodland playground.
Rothschild Waddesdon Ltd is the trading arm of the Rothschild Foundation, the charitable trust that
contributes to the upkeep of Waddesdon Manor. The trading company is comprised of four
businesses with a combined turnover of £5m - Catering, the Five Arrows Hotel, the Manor and Wine
Shops and Private Events. All profits from the trading company are covenanted to the Rothschild
Foundation.
The Retail Supervisor should have proven experience in the retail sector, bringing strong organisational
skills, attention to detail and a passion for customer service and sales. They should be an ambassador
for Waddesdon, taking pride in the shop and the unique offering we provide to visitors.
**Key responsibilities:
- **
- ** **The Retail Supervisor’s primary role is ensuring excellent service through the supervision of
the retail team.
- ** **Ensure that all outlets are welcoming & presentable, maintaining the standards as set up the
Shop Manager (SM) and Head of Retail and Buying (HoR).
- ** **To continually focus on driving sales to ensure retail makes a significant financial contribution to
Rothschild Waddesdon Ltd
- ** **To cover administrative duties in the SM absence
- ** **Ensure all financial processes meet compliance standards and Health and Safety standards are
observed.
**Business**
- ** **Assist SM and Wine Ambassador (WA) in ensuring sales are maximized by maintaining
effective visual merchandising on the shop floor, following the KPI for each area.
- ** **Restocking the displays and shop floor storage from the stockrooms, ensuring rotation of
perishable stock.
- ** **Work with the SM to highlight areas of concern with low or high stock levels.
- ** **Assist the SM to ensure the shops maintain a high standard of housekeeping.
- ** **To assist the SM, WA and RWL Administrator (RA) with stock-takes and ensure they are
undertaken in a timely and accurate manner - including spot checking lines
- ** **Supervise and support the team in the pricing and reconciliation of stock deliveries and
ensure stock rooms are kept clean, organized and stock rotated properly.
- ** **Supervise the team in adhering to opening/closing procedures
- always looking ahead to the
needs of the following shift
- ** **Assist in the packing, preparing and delivering of our Online Orders; including Gift Messaging
and order reconciliation for the following day.
**Relationships**
- Work with the retail staff and volunteers to create an efficient, flexible and happy working
environment, fostering individual commitment, enthusiasm and confidence.
- ** **Maintain good relationships with all members of the Waddesdon staff, visitors and other
members of the public - whilst acting as a problem solver & point of contact for customers
and the management team.
- ** **Work with the Catering Team to ensure that cross departmental lines are stocked &
replenished accordingly.
**Finance**
- Encourage sales by demonstrating a customer-focused commitment to the rest of the team
that provides organic sales opportunities.
- Support and participate in shop tastings, working with the WA
- Develop a strong product knowledge, taking opportunities to learn from the HoR, SM and WA
- Minimise loss by reducing wastage through stock rotation, creating offers for short-dated
product and alerting the RA to pricing or scanning discrepancies
- Be honest and ensure all monies and transactions on the shop floors are in accordance with
Accounts and PCI Compliance standards
- Ensure all financial procedures are executed according to company policy - including the
reconciliation of till takings and processing of seasonal salaries.
**Equipment**
- ** **You are expected to treat all equipment with due care and report all breakages or breakdowns
to the SM
- Environmental Awareness- ** **All staff are expected to observe The Rothschild Foundations policy and practices for the
protection and improvement of the environment, and to ensure the security of equipment
and buildings.
**Personal**
- You are expected to be punctual and adhere to appearance standards as set by the business.
- You are also expected to attend all training sessions and have read all necessary policy
documents, viz Health & Safety, Fire, Hygiene, etc. A knowledge of Waddesdon Manor, the
Grounds, and the Five Arrows Hotel, Private Ev
