Associate Lecturer in Learning and Memory

**An excellent opportunity work as a Associate Lecturer supporting the teaching team on the BSc Psychology programme.**
Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully, and to undertake all related course administrative duties as required.
Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the Learning and Memory (L5) module, which is a Level 5 module offered as a compulsory part of our BPS-accredited BSc Psychology.
The module offers an in-depth exploration of a range of issues relating to the cognitive psychology of Learning and Memory, such as classical condition, operant condition, short-term and long-term memory, working memory, neurological impairments of memory, and the neurobiological underpinnings of learning and memory. It also addresses the history of research in learning and memory. It builds upon an introductory level 4 module.
**The module is delivered on Wednesday evenings 6pm - 9:00pm for 10 weeks from January 2023 to April 2023, with marking responsibilities occurring during the exam period (e.g., May/June) and also during the summer re-sit period (e.g., end of August/early September).**
Most incumbents of roles at this level will be employed as part of their general academic development and will be undertaking this work independently but in parallel with postgraduate studies.
- A first degree in Psychology or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Advanced experience in using a range of statistical techniques and report writing suitable for quantitative psychological science research.
- Awareness of the needs of part-time adult learners and ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, to convey both simple and more complex information and academic concepts.
- A good working knowledge of SPSS.
- Commitment to working with diversity.
- Organisation and administrative skills.
- The ability able to work both as part of a team and independently as appropriate and have the ability to support teaching.
- A willingness to engage in reflective practice.
**Remuneration**:
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £63.55 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
