Founded in 1915, the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) is one of the UK's largest institutions for research and teaching on Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the Baltic region and Russia. Our mission is to create in-depth knowledge of the SSEES region in comparative, transnational, and global contexts, and to promote and disseminate an understanding of our region to the wider world; to develop multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and multi-method approaches to knowledge creation and to teaching; and to enhance the development of area studies at UCL and among the wider academic community.
We offer undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research programmes, both in our four core disciplines (Economics and Business; Politics and Sociology; Languages and Culture; and History) and in our interdisciplinary programmes (for example, our BA in History, Politics & Economics).
About the role
The postholder will conduct and make an active contribution to the planning, development, delivery and coordination of learning and teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
They will lead, plan, develop and deliver high-quality teaching, assessment, and feedback at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, including the provision of lectures, seminars and tutorials; supervise and assess undergraduate where allocated; provide academic and pastoral support and advice to undergraduate and postgraduate students; and undertake relevant pedagogic, scholarship and professional development activities.
The post is available as a 0.4 FTE maternity leave cover for twelve months, beginning 1st September 2024.
Associate Lecturer (Teaching) Grade 7 - £42,099 to £50,585 including London Allowance
Lecturer (Teaching) Grade 8 - £51,474 to £60,521 including London Allowance
Appointment at Lecturer (Teaching) Level will be dependent on experience and evidence of meeting additional essential criteria required for the role.
This role does not meet the salary requirements for visa sponsorship.
About you
The post-holder will specialise in delivering teaching in Russian culture and Russian-English translation, together with having a broad understanding of key themes and debates in the discipline.
You will be required to have a PhD in Russian Literature or Culture or a very closely related field by the start of the appointment.
You will have an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of translation practices, Russian culture, and teaching Russian to English/non-native speakers.
