About us

The Department of Philosophy at UCL is widely considered to be one of the leading philosophy departments in the UK. In the 2021 REF, 60% of our overall profile received the top grade (4*), the highest of any UK philosophy department. We offer several degree programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Undergraduate first and second year modules largely involve a weekly one-hour lecture plus a one-hour seminar while third year and postgraduate modules consist of a weekly two-hour seminar. The Department has great advantages as a centre of research activity. The extraordinary number of research seminars, talks and lectures that take place in the various London colleges, the Institute of Philosophy in the University of London, the Institute of Classical Studies, the Aristotelian Society and the Royal Institute of Philosophy, offer a wealth of opportunities.

The Department of European and International Social and Political Studies (EISPS) offers three highly selective and challenging four-year programmes that allows our students to experience the best of UCL arts, humanities and social sciences, and prepare them for international careers: European Social and Political Studies BA; European Social and Political Studies BA: Dual Degree with Sciences Po; and International Social and Political Studies BA. The programmes combine specialisation in a humanity or social science with a broad base in European or international history, law, politics and philosophy as well as fluency in a foreign language.
