They also make certain that each young person's individuality, difference and diversity are always appreciated and that our young people are provided with equal opportunities and are not discriminated against. Senior Residential Childcare Workers encourageeach young person to be involved in all aspects of their care. This will involve skill development, problem solving and assessment of risk, while being mindful of their individual capabilities.
The senior role is to support the Service Manager in providing the best quality childcare in a safe and care focussed environment for the young people. When on shift you will have initial responsibilities for monitoring and supervision of staff and take responsibilityfor the day to day management, and guidance of colleagues whilst ensuring the welfare and care of the young people.
Principal Responsibilities Your Contribution:

- Your most significant contribution is that of a professional parent, nurturing and caring for the young people
- You will take a child-centred approach in providing high quality care that will enable each young person to grow and develop healthily.
- You will implement and maintain clear and consistent boundaries necessary for the creation of a safe and secure environment necessary for each young person to flourish.
- As the provision of high quality childcare requires team work, you will need to be an active and willing participant in all team activities (i.e. weekly team meeting, training, etc).
- You will need to be flexible in your approach to work, as on occasions you may be called upon to cover a shift due to a colleague's absence. Such flexibility and team work allows children and young people to receive consistent care from recognised carers.
- Provision of parental care requires being available. To care for young people means that you will be required to sleep-in as part of a shift. Consistency in care enables children and young people to feel safe and secure.
- To contribute to the normal development of the young people through the provision of a healthy lifestyle, a variety of appropriate activities and a consistent caring adult role model.
- Talk and listen to young people, monitoring their behaviour and recording significant features.
- To contribute to and implement care plans, participate in reviews and other meetings as required and ensuring LAC documentation is up to date and changed when appropriate i.e. after a statutory review.
- Promote working in partnership with parents, carers, social workers and any other appropriate persons important to that young person.
- To be alert to signs of distress or abuse and to ensure that the young people are monitored and protected.
- Encourage young people when appropriate to carry out physical tasks i.e. washing, shopping and budgeting.
- You will be expected to embrace our EPIC vales, undergo modular training and implement your training in our homes.

Support of Staff:

- Ensure the day-to-day management is facilitated in a professional and competent manner.
- To promote professionalism and standards to the team in line with policy and procedures.
- Participate in regular staff meetings which are informative, produce action and are minuted.
- Provide support to the Service Manager and cover in the manager's absence and annual leave.
