**About Growing Space**

Growing Space is a registered mental health charity founded in 1992, providing real work skills and a support network to help adults with mental ill health reach goals and improve their quality of life. Growing Space offers free supported training leading to accreditation. Horticultural therapy projects, recycling, carpentry, digital literacy, creative arts and retail experience are just some of the areas in which we offer to support and develop individuals attending our programs.

**About the role**

We are looking for a self-motivated, caring and empathetic individual to develop creative music sessions that support mental wellbeing and engage individuals in a variety of musical activities that aim to embed skills such as confidence building, creativity, personal development and engage with people of all abilities through planned inclusive sessions.

We have a comprehensive selection of high-quality musical instruments and a fully equipped recording studio.

JOB TITLE: Music Engagement Officer

JOB PURPOSE: To co-ordinate and deliver music sessions across Gwent in hospital and community settings

RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Supervisor

JOB DETAILS: Responsible for operation, training and development of music service provided.

MAJOR TASKS:
1. To deliver musical engagement sessions and training to help support wellbeing, communication, creativity and confidence building.

2. Plan appropriate musical activities in partnership with key personnel.

3. Maintain appropriate records and assay information for use within the organisation.

4. Plan, deliver and record sessions inline with the charities systems

5. Plan the sessions to be delivered ensuring individuals with different needs can attend

6. Responsibility for the maintenance and safety of all equipment (non-mechanical) used in training and for the health and safety requirements of the project.

7. Work closely with others in a small team providing services to participants, volunteers and to co-ordinate their activities.

8. To assist in the assessment of participants referred to projects.

9. To conduct and assist in the participant progress reviews.

10. To carry out any other reasonable duties as determined by your Line Manager.

11. To enforce and promote good Health and Safety practices.

12. To ensure that any policies and procedures are adhered to.

13. To assist in raising the profile of the organisation and in any agreed developments to enhance the organisation’s operation.

14. To ensure that any information relating to the organisation, staff, participants, or funders is kept strictly confidential, in line with GDPR guidelines.

**Experience**
- Demonstrable experience of delivering some or all of the following:
- Delivering planned music sessions in a variety of setting from Community centers to hospital wards E
- Play more than one instrument E
- Empathy with mental health and the barriers the participants face E
- Experience of developing and delivering music training to different audiences. E
- Experience of working with people with mental health problems and vulnerable adults and young people E
- Experience of working with and supervising volunteers. D
- Direct or indirect experience of mental distress. D

**Skills/Abilities**
- Ability to deliver music to at least grade 3 standard on more than one instrument E
- Ability to work with people with mental health problems. E
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally, in writing, and through presentations, to a high standard with a diverse range of individuals, groups and audiences at different levels of understanding and ability. E
- Ability to work on own initiative within established guidelines and procedures. E
- Ability to organise and prioritise own workload effectively to meet job objectives. E
- Ability to work with and advise vulnerable service users in a way that promotes their rights, dignity and independence. E
