Our client is looking for 3 x Senior Buyers on a permanent, staff basis, located in North Berwick.

**ROLE**

This is a great opportunity for a procurement professional to join a great team with real scope to personally contribute to the future growth plans of a small but fast moving, successful Scottish company, which itself is part of a leading international group of marine companies.

These Senior Buyer vacancies are required for the above referenced Shipbuilding Team supporting our current and future shipbuilding projects. The team’s objectives involve the cost effective and efficient procurement of a diverse range of marine machinery, major equipment packages and other capital equipment specifically for the new construction and refit of vessels in the USA and Brazil.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Each Senior Buyer will be required to undertake a wide range of duties within our supply chain operation for capital equipment acquisition. This will include sourcing, specification writing, tender preparation and evaluation, procurement, contract drafting, expediting and liaison with our logistics and engineering team on site. In addition, conducting commercial and technical negotiations, managing vendor performance, conducting vendor assessments and building long term relationships with our key suppliers will be crucial.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and procedures.
- Work closely with internal customers, engineers, project management, suppliers and other stakeholders to develop clear, concise and unambiguous specifications and scopes of work.
- Solicit expressions of interests, prepare and issue requests for proposals / quotations and other more formal invitations to tender.
- Receive and evaluate quotations and more complex tender submissions and prepare compelling business cases and commercial justifications to support the selection of brands, manufacturers, equipment, and suppliers.
- Discuss and solve complex technical, commercial, and operational problems with suppliers and team colleagues.
- Prepare and issue accurate purchase orders, contracts and other procurement related documentation.
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with existing and potential new suppliers.
- Negotiate cost reductions and improvements in specifications and delivery lead times.
- Implement and maintain spare parts supply agreements with the company’s key suppliers to support capital equipment acquisitions.
- Accurately file electronic documentation, drawings, specifications and all procurement workflow documentation online.
- Communicate changes to design and/or specification and delivery schedules to stakeholders.
- Record, monitor and report company performance and delivery progress on all major projects.
- Assess and highlight commercial, market and operational risks and threats to schedule compliance and supply chain integrity.
- Continually assess and evaluate suppliers’ performance and undertake reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement initiatives.
- Proactively monitor, identify, and troubleshoot any identified potential or actual non-compliances, risks, or threats to the integrity of our supply chain.
- Provide commercial guidance and advice to stakeholders concerning, terms and conditions, cost, retentions, risk, warranty, servicing, and maintenance contracts etc.
- Contribute to and maintain a set of KPI’s to monitor procurement and supplier performance to ensure that targets and strategic goals are met.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Preferably have experience as a Senior Buyer or a similar role.
- Be fully conversant with current best practice procurement techniques.
- Be a highly motivated individual, passionate about procurement and committed to delivering results with high precision and accuracy.
- An innovative and creative thinker who wants to make a difference and is prepared to challenge the ‘status quo’.
- Have a strategic mindset and experience of managing the procurement of a diverse range of capital equipment and related services for complex capital vessel construction projects on time and within budget.
- Have a strong track record of category / procurement efficiency improvement opportunities across processes, workflows, compliance, transactions, KPI’s.
- Have relevant experience of working within cross functional / remotely located business units and teams.
- Be commercially astute, with experience of assessing external suppliers and skilled in identifying and translating cost reduction opportunities into long term strategies.
- Have an ability to lead, persuade and influence internal customers, external suppliers, and other stakeholders - tactically, operationally, and strategically.
- Have demonstrable expert-level negotiation skills - founded upon an ability to develop and invoke a fact-based negotiation plan during high profile negotiations for high value, technically complex, commercial, and operational scopes of work.
