**Person Specification**

**Experience**
- Previous experience working with young people, particularly in a mentoring or supportive role
- An understanding or experience of youth related community issues
- An understanding or experience in the role of a youth worker/befriender
- An understanding or experience in challenging risk behaviours
- Good knowledge of key issues around child wellbeing and protection
- Knowledge of local beneficial services and activities aimed at young people

- A friendly supportive and empathetic approach
- Excellent active listening skills including sensitivity to non-verbal cues
- Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop strong relationships with children and young people
- Ability to grasp new concepts quickly and have the confidence to implement them
- Good organisational skills
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to work as a team in a manner consistent with the values and mission of the organisation

**Qualifications**
- Youth Work qualification or relevant experience

**Children & Young People**
- Co-Design and deliver support and development opportunities for participants
- Enable young people to enjoy improved health and wellbeing in line with the allocated project outcomes
- Improve young person’s self-confidence and self esteem
- Reduce social isolation by supporting a young person to access activities in the community and engage in a range of beneficial activities
- Create a valued relationship with your young person(s)
- Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries within relationships
- Meet, spend time and share activities with the young person at an agreed public place
- Work with the young person and project co-ordinator to ensure that the best and most suitable service is being offered to the young person

**Communication**
- Excellent active listening skills including sensitivity to non-verbal cues
- A friendly supportive and empathetic approach
- A non-judgemental approach and the ability to work with young people who come from diverse backgrounds and who may be vulnerable and hard to reach
- Excellent one to one and group communication skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Active participation in monthly job chats with your line manager

**Reporting & Administration & Training**
- Complete monitoring and evaluations in consultation with young person
- Undertake training as required and in particular Child Wellbeing and Protection training
- Fully understand all policies and processes used within Bellshill & Mossend YMCA
- Provide regular updates and reports through the Lamplight system which will be used by the Project co-ordinator and senior management

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 20 per week

**Salary**: £9.90-£11.32 per hour
