The Role

Join Newcastle University's School of Computing as a Research Assistant / Associate in Computational Neurology and immerse yourself in cutting-edge research with a dynamic team dedicated to innovation and knowledge dissemination.

You will be working on the ‘ACORN’ project “Assessing and controlling seizure-modulating fluctuations”. This £1.1m UKRI-funded project supports Dr. Yujiang Wang's exploration of epileptic seizures. Dr. Wang aims to develop computer tools akin to predicting severe weather, using brain recordings, wearables, and environmental sensors to analyse seizure fluctuations. The goal is to understand individual seizure patterns, forecast upcoming seizures, and create treatments to potentially lessen their severity. Ultimately, this research aims to enhance the lives of those with epilepsy and their caregivers.

You will be at the forefront of conveying highly technical material to diverse stakeholders, facilitating discussions, and presenting research findings at conferences and in publications. Your role will involve designing and delivering engaging presentations on research outputs to varied audiences, including research sponsors, academic peers, and non-academic stakeholders.

Collaboration lies at the heart of this role. Working closely with the Principal Investigator and colleagues within the research group, you'll identify new research avenues, devise innovative methods, and expand our research portfolio. When challenges arise, your creativity and problem-solving skills will shine as you propose and implement solutions in consultation with the team.

Networking is key. You'll build bridges internally and externally, fostering relationships for potential future research collaborations. Managing your research activities and resources, you'll actively contribute to project planning while also imparting your expertise through training sessions for peers, visitors, and students.

Beyond research, you'll be part of the School of Computing's wider engagement, supporting the department and the broader discipline through your citizenship and active participation.

This appointment is fixed-term and tenable for 12 months in the first instance. The position is available on a full-time basis (37 hours per week).
