**Lacanian Psychoanalysis: Theory and Practice (Level 7)**
This Masters level optional module introduces students with an interest in psychoanalysis to fundamental concepts in Lacanian theory and practice which are related to major publications within Lacan’s over-arching objective of ‘a return to Freud’. These concern the imaginary, mirror-stage and ego identifications; the symbolic and the notion of the unconscious as ‘structured like a language’; desire and the Real; the Lacanian notion of psychosis; and ‘sexuation’ (gender identity). The module includes a discussion of Lacan’s thoughts on ‘direction of treatment’ and how Lacan’s theoretical axioms may be linked to practice, as well as how they inform critical and social forms of analysis.
You will have knowledge of Lacanian theory and its implications for practice that will enable you to teach the areas outlined above to students who may have no prior knowledge of Lacan’s work. You will have experience teaching, running seminars, and facilitating group discussions.
The module is taught as an intensive course over one week in June 2024 (dates tbc) with the teaching taking place daily from 2pm to 9.00pm. It will be taught in hyflex mode - students can attend in person or synchronously online. Some familiarity with teaching in this mode would be desirable.
Total teaching hours:
- 30 hrs in person/online teaching
- Daily (2.00pm until 9.00pm in two 3 hour slots)
**Remuneration**
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £58.48 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
