**Job description**:
This role reports to the Deputy Director of Workplace Operations, providing leadership across the North area, which includes Scotland, North-East England and Northern Ireland. (There are similar roles in Central and South.)

The Head of Workplace Operations is responsible for ensuring that safe and secure accommodation is provided to all of our customers, including other government department tenants.

HMRC’s estate consists primarily of new, large Regional Centres providing a working environment for around 1000-5000 people each. Each Regional Centre has its own estates team of 8-10 people, led by a Grade 7 Head of Estate. They are supported by area-based hard and soft FM contracts and a national security contract. The Heads of Estate report to the Head of Workplace Operations (this role).

Workplace Operations is pivotal in delivering our vision for the whole of Workplace Directorate, ensuring we deliver a ‘user first’ modern and inclusive workplace.

The jobholder works collaboratively with stakeholders across government and with our suppliers.

**Responsibilities**:
As our Head of Workplace Operations - North, you will:

- Provide strategic direction across Workplace Operations
- Build both people and operational capability, within your own team and also across Workplace
- Work closely with other Area Heads (Central and South) to ensure consistency at a national level
- Ensure that teams can respond quickly to operational issues so that our buildings remain safe and of the highest standard
- Liaise with senior members of HMRC (up to Director General level) on operational building issues
- Support the Heads of Estate in the resolution of issues arising with the regional estate
- Work in close liaison with Workplace Policy and Planning colleagues to ensure coordination between strategic and operational contract management
- Lead the delivery of Customer Service Excellence within our Estate
- Be accountable for the appropriate risk assessment and risk management in relation to health and safety in all buildings in your area
- Be accountable for all statutory compliance requirements in all buildings in your area
- Have line management responsibility for Grade 7 Heads of Estates in the 4 North Regions

**Essential Criteria**:

- Leadership experience in a large and complex operational environment - ideally in a workplace or property environment
- Proven ability to work with stakeholders from different disciplines (including commercial, finance, security, IT and external contractors)
- The ability to engage and inspire teams to operate and continuously improve in pressurised and complex environments
- The ability to deliver front line operations aligned to wider strategic priorities
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels internally, across government and with suppliers
