At Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH), we are currently expanding our programme management resources by investing in the right people to drive our ambitious change programmes forward. We are looking for an experienced programme professional and leader who has the skills and the talent to make a difference at our hospital in the role of Head of Programme Solutions.

This role will be a head of profession for programme managers in our organisation and will be key in ensuring the highest standards of programme achievement are in place by leading and mentoring staff.

This role will also lead our Programme Solutions function, which directly assists and advises programme sponsors in the execution of the roles, whilst designing and implementing the Trust's programme processes and standards. Your guidance of the team will help them succeed on their allocated areas of work, through your vision and direction.

The programmes you will be involved with will range across the entire Trust and covering a variety of different areas. This will be an excellent opportunity to utilise your expertise in programme management whilst gaining experience of a large NHS Trust. The skills you build in this role will develop you for a future at senior management levels as well as giving you a proven track record of handling highly complex programmes.

Main duties of the job

Advise, support and problem solve on a portfolio of complex and challenging programmes across multiple areas of the Trust’s improvement initiatives.

Lead professionals from a variety of backgrounds in matrix-management style programme teams assigned to your portfolio.

Directly line-manage, mentor and develop relevant programme staff, helping them problem solve and develop their skill sets.

Lead the Programme Solutions Team, working alongside other programme professionals to maintain a highly effective and innovative combined PMO service.

Advise Project Sponsors in the running of programmes by being trusted, knowledgeable and providing assurance through reporting on progress.

The Trust Programme Management Office (TPMO) is a team comprising of a variety of project professionals. We welcome those from both previous NHS backgrounds as well as those coming from externally to the NHS.

The TPMO covers both Programme Delivery and Programme Solutions and is responsible for providing a full programme management function to NUH.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The purpose of this role is to enable the delivery of all allocated programmes across the Trust and be accountable for the achievement of programme objectives and benefits realisation.

The post holder will lead the Trust PMO’s Programme Solutions function, thereby ensuring the highest standard of programme management across NUH that achieves organisational patient quality, patient / staff experience and sustainability programme objectives.

The post holder will work as a key advisor to Sponsors and Senior Sponsors on allocated programmes, ensuring that high quality programme management is in place.
