**Job Title**:Healthcare Assistant
**Hours**:Full Time 37.5
**Working Pattern**:Monday - Friday and Saturdays on a rota basis
**Location**:Derwent Practice
**Responsible to**:GPs, Nurse Manager, Practice Manager and Assistant Practice Manager
**Duties and Responsibilities**:Working under the direct supervision of the Nurse manager and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programs of patient care such as
- Phlebotomy and the processing of laboratory samples as requested by the clinical team
- Assisting GPs/Nurses with minor operations/procedures (including the preparation of the environment and equipment before, during and after the procedure).
- Vaccine/cold chain storage and monitoring
- ECG recording
- Suture/clip removal
- Health education/reviews
- Blood pressure checks
- Injections - Influenza and b12
- NHS health checks
- Dressings and wound management
- Stock management and equipment/drug checks
- Urinalysis
- Long term conditions review support, e.g, foot pulse checks and physical measurements
- Chaperone duties
- Assisting with the delivery of Quality & Outcomes Framework (QOF)
- Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking
- To maintain and stock GP clinical rooms, examination rooms and treatment rooms with agreed consumables and clinical equipment / instruments.
- Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
- Ear syringing
- INR Star testing
- 24hr BP monitoring
- Assist the nursing team where required
- To work independently with patients to respond to their healthcare needs and following procedures and aseptic techniques, in line with agreed infection control processes.
- To analyse patient records and data to improve the healthcare of patients, responding to alerts and tasks as required.
- To work independently, as part of a busy Nursing Department, whilst also working flexibly as a member of the team to meet the needs of patients and service delivery.
- To ensure data is recorded accurately and timely onto patient records using SystmOne and other IT software, with due regard for record management and patient confidentiality.
- To be responsible for changing clinical waste containers / bins in line with protocol.
- Participate in audit where appropriate
- To ensure mandatory staff training is completed annually or as appropriate.
The post holder will also take on any other duties delegated by the Practice Nurses, Doctors or Practice Management.

They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.
- Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.
- A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (previously CRB checks) will be undertaken as a matter of course.
**Learning and Development**:
The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the Practice as part of this employment, such training to include:
- Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of their own personal and/or professional development.
- Taking responsibility for their own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.
- Undertake mandatory and statutory training as required.
