Policy Assistant

The post holder will be expected to forecast and shape new policy direction in relation to the cross-cutting challenges facing the authority.
This will be a fast paced, varied and challenging role.
**Minimum experience/ knowledge/ skills**:
Knowledge of Local Government legislation, policies, procedures and rules
Experience of providing policy support
Experience of undertaking research and project work
Experience of working in a political environment
Ability to work in a demanding environment and with minimum supervision
Ability to be able to demonstrate a proven track record of delivering high quality outputs - with a clear ability to think strategically - and the ability to work across team boundaries during times of increased pressure.
Ability to get up to speed quickly with new challenges and policy areas and the ability to work simultaneously on a number of competing pieces of work.
Ability to meet tight deadlines
Flexible approach towards hours worked
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including with Members and senior officers, both orally and in writing
Ability to prioritise workloads
Ability to understand and communicate complex issues
Strong organisational, analytical and research skills
Ability to produce work at a consistently high standard
Ability to gather, analyse and interpret such information from external sources as necessary in order to help prepare briefings for the Leader.
Perform other such duties consistent with the primary function and duties of the post.
