This post will deliver high quality care to patients treated in the 23-bedded hyper-acute stroke unit and the early supportive discharge service. The OUH stroke service has been awarded SSNAP Level A for the past 2 quarters demonstrating quality of care and commitment to excellence.
This post supports the general medical caseload, including the complex medical, respiratory, infectious diseases, specialist surgery and trauma, and is key to developing and clinically supporting our rotational Band 5s.

To have responsibility for providing a dietetic service to patients treated within the OUH. This involves working as an integral member of the dietetic team to provide a flexible, prioritised service based on clinical need.
To contribute to the provision of a specialist, evidence based dietetic service to:
- Hyper-acute Stroke Unit inpatients
- Patients under the Early Supportive Discharge service
- Complex inpatients on the general medical dietetic caseload, including patients on the complex medical unit, trauma, respiratory, infectious diseases, specialist surgery and ambulatory care.
- General outpatient clinics
To contribute to the broader dietetics service provision by delivering dietetic care/cover to other clinical areas when required.
To perform nutritional assessment and consider clinical diagnoses of patients, who may have complex and/or chronic presentations, determine dietetic treatment indicated, monitor and evaluate treatment and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
To provide tailored dietetic advice, teaching and training for all members of the MDT, dietitians, students, healthcare providers, patients and carers in all aspects of nutrition and dietetics.
Develop and clinically supervise the band 5s on rotation, and the Stroke Dietetic and Nutritional Assistants.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To provide a high quality and comprehensive nutrition and dietetic service to the acute stroke and complex medicine units (and in patients homes, where appropriate, for those under the early supportive discharge service).
2. To support the provision of General Outpatient clinic cover by triaging referrals, delivering clinics when required and supervision of the Band 5 cover for the general clinics
3. To liaise closely with other members of the multi disciplinary teams - actively contributing to a coordinated, evidence based and multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
4. Contribute to the delivery of the stroke care pathway in Oxfordshire. Work closely with other dietitians working in this clinical area across the county linking in closely with other specialist stroke dietitians
5. To be a resource/contact for other dietitians/nurses in the areas of nutrition support in medicine, elderly care / frailty and stroke.
6. To contribute to the development of the nutrition policy, protocols and guidelines for this clinical area.
