This is a new enhanced Labour Suite Coordinator role to support experienced midwives with significant intrapartum knowledge & skills who have a passion for delivering outstanding care to woman & their families during labour and birth. We are looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated & resilient midwives who possess excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills. Successful applicants will be able to manage, lead and motivate a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating high levels of professionalism at all times, acting as an exemplary role model with enhanced levels of clinical knowledge and expertise. You will have the opportunity to clinically lead the Labour Suite on a shift by shift basis and develop leadership and management skills working closely with the Intrapartum Manager, Matron, MDT and Leadership team as part of the Manager of the day rota. An opportunity for career progression as a senior midwife with both permanent and secondment opportunities.

Daily coordinating of the labour suite

Completion of acuity and safe staffing data

Planning and delivery of elective/emergency care, identifying risks/red flags and implementation of escalation

Professional responsibility and accountability of the checking of all essential/emergency equipment and the cleanliness of the environment

Teaching, education and mentorship to midwives, st midwives, MSW’s and the wider team

Participate in Audit Clinical Risk & Governance processes

Attend and influence at specialty meetings

Actively participate in user feedback mechanisms engaging with women and their families to shape and inform care and services

Complaint and incident investigation

Participate in Qi and continuous learning

Participation in the non-clinical manager of the day rota managing flow in all areas.

Facilitate and support effective escalation and redeployment of resources

Participate in the Maternity Manager on call rota

Flexibility to work shifts across site and out of hours

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

**KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Clinical Responsibilities**

Take overall responsibility for the management of the Labour Suite during the shift. Provide guidance as a role model to others and using their expertise make judgements and support the rest of the team, including other areas of the service such as the antenatal and postnatal wards and community.

Work closely and collaboratively with Ward Managers to ensure the efficient and effective running of area of responsibility and to ensure that flow is maintained throughout the maternity unit/service.

Be responsible for supporting and managing of staffing levels across the 24 hour day according to women/ babies dependency/acuity including forward planning for public holidays etc.

Working with the Ward Managers, Matrons and the eroster co-ordinator to support the effective use of e-Rostering to ensure optimum skill mix for the acuity of women and babies.

Liaise between inpatient maternity services, NICU, the community midwifery service and where necessary the Gynaecology ward to support effective communication leading and taking part in any MDT cross site safety conversations as necessary.

Monitor and report to the Matrons any issues regarding capacity or skill mix.
