**Job summary**:
Engagement and Policy Division (EPD) is at the heart of how HSE reduces risk and protects people and places - it leads on HSE’s communications and business insight interventions and helps shape our policy and frontline inspection interventions. The strength of EPD is our ability to bring to bear our collective capability on policy, operational strategy, insight and communications, to support HSE’s mission on such important issues as product safety regulation, promoting proportionality in health and safety management and our better regulation work.

We are recruiting for 2 positions within the Product Safety and Market Surveillance Unit (PSMSU) that is part of Operational Strategy Division. PSMSU is responsible not only for frontline interventions to regulate and enforce the product safety requirements for workplace machinery, equipment and goods, PSMSU is also responsible for leading policy across 12 Health and Safety at Work Regulations.

Both posts will be involved in the development of policy relevant to health and safety at work and in line with strategic priorities, including Personal Protective Equipment, Work at Height, Control of Noise, Provision and Use of Work Equipment, Pressure Systems Safety, Control of Vibration, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment, Signs and Signals, Compressed Air, and Health and Safety Leasing Arrangements. Your work will involve a range of policy activities including stakeholder engagement, working collaboratively with colleagues across regulatory, other policy and science disciplines, technical specialists and communications.

To support HSE’s role as a Market Surveillance Authority responsible for regulating workplace product safety, the policy posts will involve working closely with the Office for Product Safety and Standards and other Government Departments. This work supports the re-shaping of the product safety and metrology framework now we have left the EU, to develop a regime that is agile and responsive to issues that can meet the challenges we face due to advances in technology and novel products.

**Please note due to business needs part time applicants will need to be able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week/ 4 days.**

**Job description**:

- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop evidence-based policy proposals, including providing drafts of high-quality advice and briefing to HSE senior management and Ministers.
- Lead the delivery of the projects and workstreams you are responsible for to agreed objectives and timescales.
- Represent HSE’s interests at stakeholder meetings and cross-Government departmental meetings.
- Proactively build and maintain a network of contacts and work collaboratively and inclusively to ensure that policy proposals are joined up with related policy programmes across HSE and wider Government.
- You may have line management responsibilities.
