**Job summary**:
Here at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), we work on things that make a real difference to people’s lives.

Whether it's through the homes we live in, the work of our local councils, or the communities we’re all a part of, our work is at the top of the political agenda. We have ambitious and far-reaching outcomes to achieve this year and, if you’re thinking of joining us, there’s never been a more exciting time.

We have teams transforming how we collect and disseminate data payments, provide Government funding and improve internal processes for users. We work with blended teams, consisting of a mix of Civil Servants and innovative suppliers.

We have circa 3,500 staff who are based in 20 offices across the UK.

The Digital Front Door team provides support to policy and delivery teams to help them understand user needs, consider user behaviour, design workable solutions and communicate their thinking to Ministers and stakeholders.

This role is for an enthusiastic and passionate advocate of user-centred design (UCD) who wants to help DLUHC continue on its journey to embed digital approaches across our policy making, ensuring that public services are well designed and taxpayers’ money is well spent.

The role focusses on managing the whole ecosystem around the effective use of these contracts to spread UCD take up. It has a significant contract management element - shaping and managing the administrative and procedural element of contracts - coupled with a significant role in overseeing the smooth running of the contractor-policy team relationship.

**Job description**:
**As a user centred design contracts lead you’ll;**
- work with other members of the Digital team to provide practical advice to those who are embarking on digital or user-centred pieces of work, particularly guiding them through the process of working with UCD contractors
- provide oversight of the portfolio of procured UCD support projects in the department, managing spend and performance on contracts
- support awareness of connections and learning points between pieces of work and connecting projects to create efficiency where appropriate
- support teams to navigate internal commercial processes and Cabinet Office Spend Controls, providing advice and assurance to teams within the department and our arms length bodies
- support the roll-out of official interventions to increase staff members’ UCD capability, and possibly take the role of a UCD expert in those interventions.
- support relationships with the Policy Profession, the cross-government UCPD network, the Central Digital and Data Office, the Government Digital Service (GDS) and others to further the cross-government interest and momentum around UCD and digital capability
- be known as a helpful and friendly face around the Department, raising your profile and that of UCD through contributing to blogs, attending other teams’ meetings, etc
- help keep the department’s Digital Pipeline up to date and support colleagues to maintain an accurate record of our digital spend
- take the initiative to promote the Directorate’s work and help colleagues resolve process or IT issues when these arise.

**Person specification**:
**As a user centred design contracts lead you’ll have;**
- an understanding of, and enthusiasm for, government digital aims and values, including agile ways of working and user-centred design
- confidence in exploring and establishing stakeholders’ and suppliers’ motivations; the ability to align digital best practise with others’ priorities
- be a confident communicator, able to demonstrate where you have championed the GDS values and philosophy to an audience that was less familiar with these ideas
- experience of tracking/overseeing/managing processes and/or relationships to ensure good quality delivery
- the ability to work with and bring change to people from a variety of different backgrounds and professional cultures
- demonstrable understanding of the wider mission surrounding their work; you should have the ability to spot and act on spontaneous opportunities
- familiarity with managing contractors or consultants

**Benefits**:

- Alongside your salary of £37,064, Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities contributes £10,007 towards you being a member of the Civil
