**Community Engagement Officer**

Welsh Asian Heritage Project: Celebrating and Archiving the Experiences of Ugandan Asians.

We are looking for a proactive and highly organised Community Engagement Officer with experience of working with South Asian communities in Wales to play a key role in delivering the Welsh Asian Heritage Project’s community engagement activities.

Working in partnership with all cultural, language and faith communities is essential for us and we are looking for someone who is comfortable working across all generations whether in a Gurdwara, Mandir or a Mosque as well as in other religious and cultural settings.

As Community Engagement Officer, you will be responsible for developing and sustaining community relationships and for engaging people with lived experience to actively co-produce the project.

**This project is being funded by the Welsh Government as part of its anti-racist Wales programme.**

**Job description**:

- Engaging, establishing and sustaining relationships with the Welsh Asian cultural, language and faith organisations including local Gurdwaras, Mosques and Mandirs.
- Organising a series of community events and activities to engage local communities to work in partnership with the project.
- Identifying individuals of Ugandan Asian Heritage willing to contribute their stories, recollections, photographs and objects for the oral history archive and exhibitions.
- Conducting interviews to record oral histories.
- Recruiting and providing day to day support to volunteers who will be involved in delivering different aspects of the project.
- Supporting the Project Leader in developing a programme of educational and awareness activities aimed at all sections of the community.
- Contributing to the project’s social media posts, newsletters, website material and other publicity.
- Working with colleagues at the Royal Commission to organise and deliver events associated with the project, including a national and a travelling exhibition in 2025.
- Participating in project management meetings to report on progress and delivery and help resolve any issues that arise.
- Collaborating with other project team members to deliver a seamless service to internal and external project stakeholders.
- Collecting baseline data to contribute to the reporting and monitoring and evaluation of the project.
- Liaising with the Commission’s archive and other teams to transfer all appropriate project material into the Commission’s archive, the National Monuments Record of Wales, and the Peoples Collection Wales.
- Contributing to the project’s longer-term legacy.

- Experience of using a variety of methods to evaluate the success of community-based activities.

- Be a fluent speaker of one of the primary languages of older members of the Welsh Asian community especially those of Ugandan Asian origin (Urdu, Panjabi, Gujarati, Hindi).
- Have basic Welsh language skills to level 1 on the Commission’s Welsh Skills Assessment Framework*, to answer the telephone and open and close meetings bilingually, pronounce Welsh words, place, and personal names correctly or be willing to learn as training will be availab
