The Department is committed to promoting flexible ways of working, whilst enabling the business to operate at maximum efficiency and will expect colleagues to work from a blend of locations, including some time working at home, as required.

Certain job roles may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. The corporate hub location will be the designated place of work and any remote or home working arrangement does not constitute a change to your designated place of work or contractual Terms and Conditions.

**Job description**:
This role will involve a wide range of varied responsibilities including:

- Leading, manage and motivating a team of around 65 staff, with direct line management of 3 SEOs.
- Prepare plans to safeguard resilience for delivery of team’s service; regularly assessing resource requirements, ensuring that employees develop fully and are engaged in their roles.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders to align DMA (Decision Making and Appeals) team in support of DWP’s objectives and priorities.
- Advising senior officials on complex case referrals and tribunal cases, risks and handling options.
- Working with teams across DWP and other departments, such as Her Majesty’s Court and Tribunal Service to improve effective delivery of dispute resolution.

There will be a strong emphasis on working with different teams across DWP. With close working required with colleagues across Policy, Service Delivery, Disputes Resolution, Government lawyers. Litigation and OAG (Office of Advocate General in Scotland) to ensure their engagement and support in agreeing the department’s position on key policy/legal issues and ensuring operations are compliant with legal requirements.

**Experience Key Criteria.**
- Demonstrable experience of leading and supporting teams through periods of change and uncertainty.
- Strong interpersonal and people management skills with a proven track record of building resilience, flexibility and capability in teams.
- Demonstrable experience of improving performance in an operational environment.
- Demonstrable experience of providing a quality service in a customer focussed environment.
- Legal experience or case management of legal cases to tribunals etc would be an advantage.
