**Job Introduction**:
**Our Team**:
The financial planning team consists of 12 people who work to support the business to understand financial performance and make important business decisions across publishing.

**The Focus of the Role**:
The main objective of this role is to provide meaningful, informed and timely commercial insight to guide business decision making. The role reports to the Head of Finance with close working relationships with operational management including Managing Directors, Publishers, budget holders and the central Shared Service Centre Team.

**Role Responsibility**:
Decision Support:

- Work with MD/Publisher to ensure plans are in place to maximise long term profitability
- Support business to ensure financial benefits identified in budgets and forecasts are delivered
- Work with content, marketing and advertising teams through Planning Meetings and other forums to ensure full understanding of the required financial performance
- Advise on competitor financial performance and activity and general market trends
- Support in the financial evaluation of acquisition and launch proposals
- Assist with financial insight and analysis to support recommendations in decision papers
- Around 35% of time spent on these activities_

Financial Management:

- Provide support to the business around all accounting processes
- Effectively monitor, interpret and challenge monthly financial results. Communicate issues, risks, opportunities and trends to the management team on a timely basis
- Support budget holders in managing spend consciously
- Provide support and guidance to the business on the use of the purchasing system and the coding of transactions
- Review monthly management accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Around 30% of time spent on these activities_

Budgeting and Forecasting:

- Deliver timely budgets and forecasts with associated insight and commentary
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders to develop robust forecasts for revenues and direct costs
- Review and refine information with MD and Senior BA
- Input all required data to Hyperion
- Around 25% of time spent on these activities_

Other:

- Liaison with auditors during audit process
- Key interface for business with the BCS Central Finance Team
- Other ad hoc tasks
- Around 10% of time spent on these activities_
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with a wide range of people
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Self-motivation, using initiative to change focus as business priorities change
- Ability to manage varied workload and tight deadlines
- Highly numerate with extensive accounting experience
- Experience of working in a commercial environment
- Extensive experience of using Excel, PowerPoint and Hyperion
