**Position**:
Working in a fast paced, dynamic Finance team within a changeable environment, the Finance Business Partner is responsible for delivering and managing a robust Finance Business Partner function to support Project Managers, Programme Managers and Programme Directors. The Finance Business Partner will be a qualified accountant with several years of post-qualification experience. They will also be a professional, adaptable individual who can hit the ground running whilst providing a first-class service to the Institute.

**ROLE PURPOSE**

Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, you will be part of a team of four Finance Business Partners and be assisted by an Assistant Financial Accountant. The purpose of this role is to engage effectively with, and provide high quality financial reports, insight and support to the key decision-makers in the organisation. The postholder will deliver project and programme finance, including initial costings, budgeting, financial performance management and reporting. This role requires excellent people management skills, the ability to embed Finance best practice into organisational processes and energy and enthusiasm to ensure that staff within the institute are fully engaged with the Finance function.

**DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**

**Business Partnering**
- Use analytical methods to interrogate the finance systems to provide financial data then use this data to produce relevant, accurate management information, designing reports suitable for the needs of stakeholders;
- Provide regular and ad hoc management information and analysis to collaboratively enable the senior management, Directors and Executive to make informed decisions to meet their internal and external financial responbilities;
- Interpret the data and management information in order to support and offer advice to the end users of the information;
- Collate feedback on reports and service delivery to inform service development and adapt to meet the organisation’s needs, consistent with a continuous improvement philosophy;
- Produce reports that identify key issues and findings and accurately interpret patterns and trends;
- Build strong, collaborative working relationships with stakeholders across the organisation, tailoring communications to the audience, explaining complex and detailed financial information in a clear and accurate manner;
- Challenge existing processes and working methods, again with a continuous improvement philosophy
- Anticipate when additional reports or further analysis is required and respond accordingly, presenting reports appropriate to audiences without compromising meaning and ensuring understanding;
- Work with stakeholders to prepare robust business cases and proposals to support new business, grant or partnership opportunities;
- Provide detailed information and advice that contributes to and influences business plans and longer term planning having anticipated and highlighted the issues that need to be taken into account;
- Provide support and encouragement to junior team members;
- Recommends and advises on available options for decisions that affect operational processes, taking into account any risks;
- Lead on finance-related initiatives and projects as required, liaising with the other Finance Business Partners through the mutual exchange of information in a timely manner.

**Management and Project Accounts**
- Work closely with the Senior Finance Business Partner and Financial Controller to ensure that timely and accurate monthly accounting adjustments such as accruals are reflected in the general ledger;
- Liaise with stakeholders to ensure that the financial performance for their business area or project is adequately monitored and managed, that they have useful financial information and that any issues are identified and resolved proactively;
- Attend management accounts meetings with stakeholders as required, representing the face of Finance in a professional and collaborative manner.

**Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting**
- Provide detailed strategic and financial analysis for the preparation of long term business plans, budgets and forecasts for the organisation in conjunction with the Senior Finance Business Partner;
- Lead on the annual budget process for own allocated projects liaising with stakeholders and ensuring their buy-in to final figures;
