Building Materials Sales Person

**Work Pattern**:Full time - Monday to Friday 7.00am-4.30pm & alternate Saturday mornings 7.30am-12.30pm
**Job Purpose**
As a proactive team member, you will be based in the sales division developing and maintaining outstanding customer relations to maximise profitability and uphold the good reputation of the company. You will ensure that customers experience an efficient and effective service and are completely satisfied with the advice and support given. You will actively engage with existing and prospective customers to promote our products and services, with the aim of achieving additional and ongoing sales.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
- Greet and engage with customers to establish their purchase needs now and in the future
- Provide advice on alternative and/or more suitable products
- Produce sales note or invoice as required
- Produce customer quotes
- Pro-actively answer the telephone promptly and deal with enquiries/take orders
- Maintain and develop good relationships with the customers, aiming to maximise the potential building material supply opportunities for their jobs over a prolonged period of time
- In the absence of Yard staff, escort customer and retrieve the goods required
- General sales office and shop duties including (but not limited to) processing payments, unpacking and checking goods delivered, restocking shelves
- Support the quarterly stock check process for shop areas
- Work proactively to ensure the office shop areas are maintained to a high standard and free of health and safety risks
- During busy periods or staff shortages, undertake general yard or warehouse duties to support day to day operations, such as serving customers in the yard
- Report any accidents as soon as possible and in compliance with the company’s accident reporting procedure
- Attend training when requested to
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures
- Any other duties commensurate with this role
**Person Specification**
- Builder’s Merchant sales experience preferable but not essential
- Product knowledge preferable but not essential
- Skilled at establishing and meeting customers purchase needs
- Confident in providing advice on alternative and/or more suitable products
- Outstanding customer service delivery
- Exemplary at retaining and developing new and existing accounts
- Strong negotiating and interpersonal skills
- Proactive and enthusiastic
- Ability to multitask
- Possess strong resilience with the ability to stay calm and professional during busier periods
- Experience of producing product quotations
- An understanding and experience of stock taking
- IT competent with administration skills
- Exceptional at relationship building, with both customers and colleagues
Enthusiastic at working as part of the team in keeping the branch clean, tidy, well stocked and organised
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £30,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
