We are one of the leading independent building material suppliers in the East Midlands. We have been established for over 33 years and operate out of a 2.5-acre site in Ilkeston. We sell heavy side building materials, landscaping and timber materials to the trade and public.

**Yard Supervisor Role**

We are a family run business with a strong emphasis on team work. You will be required to support others working together as a team.

Customers and drivers will regularly be around the yard, so having good people skills is important as you will be interacting directly with them.

You will be part of a team that works in a safe environment so you will be supervising the yard operations to ensure plant movements are happening safely along with ensuring supplier vehicles are supervised when manoeuvring. Monitoring to ensure our processes are being followed for the picking packing and loading operation. Monitoring and auditing our safe systems of work. You will also ensure our daily walk around checks are taking place to ensure we are keeping the yard & warehouses safe and clean. When there is no supervisor duties to carry out you will be carrying out some yardman’s responsibilities for example serving customers etc.

**Yard supervisor responsibilities include**:
1. To assist the yardman in determining their priorities for the day.

2. Monitor to ensure daily checks are being carried out on equipment and ensure defects are reported and actioned.

3. Monitor the yardman to ensure they are carrying out daily walk around checks to maintain a safe and clean yard.

4. Monitor the picking process to ensure picked orders are getting checked by a checker.

5. Collect picking failure data and coordinate with operations manager to record and investigate root cause.

6. To ensure the yardman put away stock in a timely manner which we have received from supplier deliveries.

7. Supervise yard operations to ensure plant movements are happening safely.

8. To monitor that supplier vehicles are supervised when maneuvering.

9. Monitor yard operations to ensure we follow the Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).

10. Audit and record results of safe system of work procedures

11. To ensure other tasks are completed when yard and drivers are not busy.

12. Coordinate with other departments and investigate accidents and identify root cause of damage.

13. Monitor work of employees and initiate disciplinary actions as required.

**Yardman’s responsibilities include**

1. Serving customers

2. Loading KRM lorries

3. Picking orders

4. Unloading & checking deliveries from our suppliers

**The Individual**

We are a family run business with a strong emphasis on teamwork. You will be required to provide support to the team. You will be interacting with customers so you will need to have the following qualities; customer friendly, cheerful personality, good attitude to work, able to work on your own initiative.

**Key skills**

We are a small team committed to customer service excellence as well as the development of our people. You must be willing and able to contribute to this supportive environment, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively with your colleagues whilst maintaining a flexible approach.

You should have relevant experience working with customers face to face and supervising yards it would be desirable to have worked in a yard previously.

You should have relevant experience of managing people and supervising yards.

You will require a forklift truck counter balance licence as you will be using the machinery daily to move products around the yard.

It isn’t essential to have product knowledge of the heavy side materials, training will be provided.

**Package / Remuneration.**

The hours are Monday to Friday 7.20am to 5pm and Saturday 7.20am to 12pm. We have a Saturday rota in place which aims to give you every other Saturday off. The package includes 20 days holiday per year plus bank holidays, plus Christmas Shut-down
