Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a versatile Custodian/Building Assistant to join our dedicated facilities team on a full-time basis.

The Custodian/Building Assistant will report to and deputise for the Chief Custodian, playing a pivotal role in providing an efficient and reliable service (cleaning, health & safety, security and minor maintenance) to the Faculty of Economics in order to support the smooth running of the buildings.

The role-holder is responsible for ensuring daily duties are completed and buildings are operating efficiently and effectively. The areas covered have a wide range of users and provide facilities for lectures, meetings and events as well as a wide variety of office accommodation.

The further information file details the key responsibilities of the role, however some of the regular duties include: deputising for the Chief Custodian in their absence, supervising custodial team members, cleaning and maintenance, routine statutory testing, routine security checks, opening and checking rooms required by events, research and teaching schedules, minor maintenance and more.

The successful applicant will ideally have experience in a caretaker/porterage or a similar role and ability to carry out minor maintenance tasks with basic D.I.Y skills. Although this experience is desirable, we are happy to train the right individual in areas where they may have limited experience if they are able demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to learning and taking on these duties as well as being a great team member.

Good communication, timekeeping and interpersonal skills are essential in order to interact effectively with staff and visitors at all levels as is the ability to demonstrate knowledge of facts, principles and processes in relation to custodial work.

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
