**Job summary**:
The Forestry Commission are the Government’s forestry experts in England. We advise nationally and locally on how to unlock the full potential of woodlands and the forestry sector to protect, improve and expand England’s valuable woodland assets.

Never has there been a more important time for trees and forests to help tackle the climate emergency and provide a much-needed sanctuary for people and wildlife. The Government has renewed its commitment to net zero targets; new woodland and tree planting will contribute to meeting those targets.

The Department for the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Forestry Commission have set up the NCF tree programme for England to support the forestry sector, landowners, and communities in the delivery of these ambitions.

Forestry Commission leads the delivery of the following parts of the tree planting programme:

- Developing sector capacity
- Woodland creation on public land
- Woodland creation on private land
- Promotion and engagement

**Job description**:
The purpose of this role is to provide administrative support for a series of innovation and capital grants funded by the Government’s Nature for Climate Fund (NCF), including but not limited to the following:
The post holder will occasionally be required to provide support to the Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) team, whose main functions are incentives, regulations, and compliance. This team has lead responsibility for grant support for woodland and the operation of forestry regulations such as felling licences.

To undertake these tasks effectively the role holder will develop and maintain close working relationships with SFM staff, Forest Services Area staff and other National Office teams. The post holder will report to a Project Officer, or to the Grant Manager during an interim period.

**Key Work Areas - Administration Officer**
- Manage grant enquiries mailboxes, acting as first point of contact for applicants, customers, and stakeholders.
- Manage the administration of approved cases including processing claims for payment, in line with appropriate scheme rules, liaise with compliance and national finance teams.
- Assist with timely publication of grant products.
- Assist with implementing improvements to grant processes and products.
- Liaise regularly with colleagues across National Office as required
- Contribute to overall delivery of Forest Services objectives and business by assisting with other National Office Admin tasks where appropriate.
