This is an exciting new opportunity to join the Bowel Cancer Screening team as our service expands.

We are seeking to recruit, on 12 months secondment, a committed and enthusiastic Band 5 nurse to join the team, who has an interest in this specialist area within cancer pathways.

This post is a great opportunity for potential career progression and an opportunity to gain specialist understanding of cancer prevention strategies delivered by a National Screening Programme as it expands to deliver the service to a wider age range across the Nottinghamshire target population.

Informal visits are welcomed and encouraged to gain a full understanding of what this newly created role involves.

Main duties of the job

The Screening Practitioner works collaboratively with the screening centre team as well as the programme hub. The Screening Practitioner facilitates the patient journey for those referred to the centre with a positive FIT test, as well those on surveillance pathways.

Supporting Specialist Screening Practitioners in nurse-led clinics, and administration duties including processing of results and follow up phone calls to patients. Ensure 2WW timescales are followed & support senior specialist nurses ensure timely access to screening colonoscopy or alternative diagnostic intervention with seamless transition to agreed pathways in primary, secondary, tertiary or outpatient care settings.

The screening practitioner will work in the procedure room to support & monitor patients during their procedure and input the information into the data set with handover to a Band 6 Specialist Screening Practitioner if further investigations are required or there are cancer results for discussion with the patient prior to discharge. Due to this, data collection component good IT skills are essential and attendance on the BCSS database training course is required.

Provide advice, information & support for those making direct contact with the screening centre, and be actively involved in audit and health promotion activities for the Nottinghamshire area.

Cross site working and work between SFH and NUH trusts is required as part of this role, therefore a full driving license is essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

**JOB SUMMARY**

The post holder will provide specialist care and support for individuals that participate in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP)

In particular, the post holder will work in close collaboration with the BCSP hub, health promotion services, PCTs and multidisciplinary colorectal teams, to provide a coordinated and seamless screening service.

To play a pivotal role in supporting the BCSP by;
- Working collaboratively with the Programme Hub
- As part of the team, co-ordinating and providing care from the screening centre to address the needs of individuals as they access the service and advance through their screening pathway.
- As part of the team, the post holder will also be actively involved and participate in the co-ordination and delivery of health promotion activities with local health promotion services to improve access to screening by all sections of society.
- Post will be based at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust with cross site working within the Trust, as well as cross Trust working at Sherwood Hospitals.

- 3 years Band 5 experience
- Full UK Driving License
- Recent experience of working in an acute hospital setting

- Colorectal or Endoscopy 1 year minimum experience
- Degree Level Nurse qualification
