The post holder will provide comprehensive and effective adult and child support, education and supervision across North Cumbria’s Health & Care System, to include the wider ICS footprint.

The role would suit someone who has been an MCA champion/supervisor/lead for their team - with specialist knowledge of safeguarding, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Standards, who wants to build on these skills within a supportive team.

The post-holder will act as a resource for advice and clinical support for all staff across the health system. To include:

- clinical education and training around MCA and DoLS
- support and facilitate students, newly qualified professionals and existing healthcare staff in expanding their workplace skills
- provide feedback from observations and assessment
- Undertake an active role in the development of the MCA/safeguarding champion program.
- Use audit and data to analyse practice and develop a response
- Contribute towards reporting for the team and trust

This role will include providing safeguarding and MCA advice to issues that arise during training, safeguarding supervision, and contributing to the writing and updating of policy, procedure and guideline documents in conjunction with the MCA Specialist Practitioner, Head of Safeguarding and the Named Nurses.

The post-holder is responsible and accountable for their own practice, working within the defined limits of competence and within the scope of the role.
- Provide enhanced support, training, supervision and development opportunities to staff across the Trust.
- Ensure systems are in place to deliver training, audit training needs and monitor compliance.
- Provision of all levels of enhanced, bespoke MCA and some Adult and Children training
- Alongside the Specialist Practitioner for MCA and LPS, support practitioners in the development of MCA work
- To work with operational leads across NCIC to identify staff development and education needs with regard to MCA/DoLS
- Providing advice and supervision
- To provide effective monitoring, evaluation of standards of practice and work closely with service leads to ensure such standards are met.
- Alongside the Specialist Practitioner for MCA and LPS, to contribute to governance and annual assurance reports
- To notify the Head of Safeguarding of any practice areas or systems, which may place patients and/or the organisation at risk
- Alongside the Specialist Practitioner for MCA and LPS, maintain a physical presence across NCIC
- Identify outcomes of inter-professional learning experiences
- To escalate where patient, staff, public or learner safety is compromised.
- Deliver ad hoc and bitesize training for staff in clinical areas
- Alongside the Specialist Practitioner for MCA and LPS, to work in partnership with the learning and improvement sub-groups of both the Childrens and adults safeguarding board.
- Responsibility for the management and co-ordination of the safeguarding champion network.
