**SCHOOL COUNSELLOR**

**Salary Grade PCD8ii (£29,777 to £30,296 per annum pro rata, actual £8.073 to £8,214)**

**12 hours per week, term time only**

We would like to appoint an experienced School Counsellor to work alongside our strong pastoral team. We are looking for someone who will use their experience to provide a high quality counselling service to students who are experiencing a wide range of emotional problems.

**Job Purpose**:
To provide a high quality counselling service to students experiencing a wide variety of emotional problems.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- To be responsible for developing and maintaining a high quality counselling service for the whole school that supports the mental health and wellbeing of all students;
- To offer students independent and confidential counselling and support using a range of therapeutic interventions;
- To work with a diverse range of issues including bereavement and loss, transition, eating disorders and self-harm, depression, anger management and erratic behaviour, abuse of any kind, anxiety and fears;
- To be alert to trends and patterns of problems and to be willing to identify causes and recommend corrective action;
- To attend meetings or discussion sessions with parents if asked and as appropriate within agreed confidentiality guidelines;
- To liaise with other staff in respect of mental health and counselling issues and to support school staff in their pastoral roles;
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to protect and safeguard students;
- To maintain suitable case records in a secure place ensuring GDPR compliance.
- To attend regular sessions with a suitably qualified supervisor.

**Person Specification**
**Qualification/Training/ Competencies**
- Counselling qualifications to at least Diploma level (a minimum of 2 years’ duration)
- A good general level of education to at least A Level standard
- GCSE equivalent in English and Maths

**Relevant Experience**
- Working with children and young people

**Knowledge**
- Knowledge of data protection and safeguarding

**Skills and Abilities**
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to initiate and sustain a counselling relationship with a range of students
- Very good ICT skills
- Exceptional listening skills
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Ability to operate within agreed legal, ethical and professional boundaries when working with children and young people
- Ability to build and form good relationships with students, staff, parents and others
- Ability to remain calm in all situations
- Be approachable as an individual

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £8,073.00-£8,214.00 per year
