You’ll play a key role in the collection of financial data from the Academy Sector via online forms, including the automation functionality. This involves an agile development process to make improvements to the forms and update for new requirements. You’ll work in a team where we are responsible for the planning, prioritising and oversight of the online forms. This involves everything from working with IT specialists, financial accountants and working closely with academy trust representatives. The team manages the overall collection cycle from developing requirements, planning the communications, liaising with sector whilst the data collection forms are live and using the data collected.

These are high profile and visible data collections in the academies sector, in DfE and ministerial interest is high.

These three posts will work across the team that collects via the
- Academies budget forecast return (BFR)
- Academies accounts return (AR),
- Academies land and buildings collection tool (LBCT)

The data collection process has also developed a standardised academies chart of accounts (CoA). A priority of the DfE is to promote the uptake of the CoA and to encourage academies and their auditors to use the automated data upload functionality.

**Job description**:
The academy sector consists of nearly 2,600 academy trusts representing over 9,000 academies nationwide. The department collects essential financial data across several online returns at points in time throughout the academic year. The use of the data is to: monitor the financial health of individual trusts and the sector as a whole; report back to the sector themselves data for their own comparative purposes; and consolidate the returns into a sector wide set of accounts to report to Parliament (the largest of its type in the public sector).

The duties of the roles range across the following:

- Development of the academies’ online forms, this involves the design and build to high spec in collaboration with the technical divisions, ensure the form improves each year both in functionality and user experience and ensure extensive testing of the form.
- Development of the automation functionality of the forms is an important element of maintaining a good relationship with the academy trusts and their software suppliers.
- Carry out robust and accurate financial/technical processes to ensure the forms are improving and fit for purpose and meet the requirements of central finance teams.
- Using communications to help support the academy sector by drafting, editing and publishing our online digital content.
- Supporting users of the forms to help them complete their returns accurately, in a timely manner and to build a good rapport with the wider user base.
- Working in a multi-disciplinary team in a matrix approach to deliver the online forms.

**Desirable past experience/skills for this role are**:

- CCAB/CIMA qualified or part qualified and studying toward a qualification
- Experience of delivering online forms
- Working with IT developers using an agile project methodology
- Advanced excel skills (including complex nested formula)

Desirable criteria will only be assessed in the event of a tie break situation to make an informed decision.

**Person specification**:

- Project experience is needed to be able to support the planning, development and roll out of the online forms and of the automation functionality.
- Stakeholder management experience is vital in being able to improve the forms as you’ll be working closely with a variety of DfE colleagues as well as academy users
