This is an exciting opportunity to join the division that are responsible for the collection of Academy Trust and Further Education (FE) financial data. Two posts will be in the academies side of the division and two will be in the FE side.

In the FE side your role will be to help design the financial data collection for the FE sector from the ground up, after they were reclassified to central government. This will be one of the largest financial consolidations within the public sector. This role presents a rare opportunity to influence the end-to-end process around data collection and usage, enabling long term maintainability and value for money.

The roles will require strong project and stakeholder management skills and will involve developing an understanding of the needs of the FE sector (over 200 colleges), negotiating on financial data and reporting requirements and implementing changes that will ensure long term viability of the processes among other needs.

In the academy roles you’ll play a leading role in the collection of financial data from the Academy Sector via online forms, including the automation functionality. This involves development, continuous improvement and roll out of the online forms, collection of the data, and communication with the sector relating to various digital returns ensuring that written communications are user focused.

This post will be working in the team that collects the academies budget forecast return (BFR), academies accounts return (AR), and the academies land and buildings collection tool (LBCT). The data collection process has also developed a standardised academies chart of accounts (CoA). A priority of the DfE is to promote the uptake of the CoA and to encourage academies and their auditors to use the automated data upload functionality. These are high profile and visible data collections in the academies sector, in DfE and ministerial interest is high.

The post holder will be working in an Agile project management environment and will be collaborating with our delivery partners to design and implement the new data collection process. These roles will be ideal for finance professionals who are looking to broaden their skillset and bring their skills to a high-profile project.

Working in the Operational Finance directorate, and operating across financial reporting teams and directorate boundaries, this role will be integral to the project to ensure effective and efficient data collection and usage. The post holder will need to work very closely with data and digital experts in the department, making this a good fit for accountants looking to strengthen their experience in user focussed digital delivery.
