The Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health (PCPH) is part of the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care (IEHC) and is headed by Professors Kate Walters and Greta Rait.

**About the role**:
The Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health is seeking an enthusiastic individual with a background in medicine, a health-related discipline or social science and an interest in health inequalities and qualitative research for a position as a Research Assistant at the UCL Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health (PCPH).

The post holder will join an enthusiastic friendly multidisciplinary team with expertise in digital health research, long-term condition management, health inequalities, implementation science, and qualitative research.

The researcher will be working on the “Prostate Cancer through the Eyes of Black Men” study, which is funded by a NIHR School for Primary Care Research grant. The study aims to explore what enables Black men to seek prostate cancer screening or engage with prostate cancer healthcare, what barriers there are and how these could be best addressed in primary care.

The postholder will be conducting focus groups with patients and qualitative interviews with healthcare professionals and will hold a workshop to explore the experiences of service users and staff, volunteers and stakeholders.

Applicants may need to conduct face-to-face focus groups and interviews in London and occasionally across England. The position provides an excellent opportunity for a researcher who is interested in long-term health conditions, health inequalities and qualitative research.

This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require the right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

An acceptable DBS check is required to carry out this role.

**About you**:
You will have the opportunity to contribute to an important piece of research aimed at exploring and addressing health inequalities.

As such, you will collaborate with other enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team members, conduct applied health research working with people living with or beyond prostate cancer, health care professionals, volunteers and stakeholders.

You will be responsible for completing focus groups, interviews and a workshop. You will analyse the data using thematic analysis and write up findings for publication, supported by the whole research team.

You will be expected to lead the recruitment of participants and liaise with sites and collaborators.

Selected key skills:

- Experience of working with people with health conditions (in a research, clinical, caring or voluntary capacity)
- Experience of recruiting participants to research studies
- Experience of conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups as well as data analysis
- Ideally experience of writing reports or papers for publication
- Ability to set and work to deadlines
- Excellent IT skills with an ability to demonstrate a good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office packages and qualitative data software

The interview date is scheduled for **15th December 2023** and will be conducted online.

Subject to the regulations of the funding bodies, appropriately qualified members of research staff will be expected to contribute to teaching and other departmental activities. At the present time, this is estimated to amount to an absolute maximum of thirty contact teaching hours per annum per 1.0 FTE. In addition, the post-holder may potentially supervise iBSc and/or MSc students, as appropriate to their capacity and career stage.
