**This opening assignment is for 5 months**

The purpose of the role is to provide support and assistance to the County Commissioner in the general management and efficient operation of the full range of support services within the Older People & Prevention Team.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- The day-to-day management of support services staff to ensure a balanced, consistent and continuous provision of support services taking into account fluctuations in demand between teams and individuals and the absence of support services staff through leave.
- Workload allocation, implementation of procedures, formal supervision of staff, including PPR procedures and assisting in the recruitment, training and development of support services staff.
- Responsibility for the day to day financial transactions within the team, in accordance with financial regulations including responsibility for placing orders and the passing of accounts for payment and the monitoring of associated budgets, through the County Council’s Finance and Procurement System (SAP).
- Responsibility for the design and provision of statistical and management information reports to enable senior officers to meet their reporting requirements.
- Assist the County Commissioner in the responsibility for the maintenance of the fabric of the building, in liaison with the Building Manager, it’s furniture and equipment and the promotion of good housekeeping standards. To assist, on a day to day basis, for the maintenance of Fire and Health and Safety standards in accordance with legislation and Departmental policy. This will include induction training for all new staff.
- Responsibility for the maintenance of appropriate records in accordance with the Department’s Records Management Policy ensuring compliance with policies on the case recording, file retention and destruction.
- Assist in the development of appropriate information systems and administrative procedures.
- Undertake such other duties as may be required and which are commensurate with the grading of the post.

**Qualifications**:

- GCSE English or equivalent.
- NVQIII in Business Administration or equivalent.

**Experience**:

- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- 2 years previous experience of supervision of a team, in an office environment.
- Proven experience of setting up and implementing office procedures, systems and equipment.
- Previous experience of monitoring budgets.
- Working with internal/external customers to provide a quality service.

**Skills & Abilities**:

- A proven ability to lead and motivate staff (examples should be given in supporting statement)
- Time management skills with an ability to work under pressure, manage staff workload and to work on own initiative
- The ability to organise and undertake a number of areas of work to ensure flexibility within the Team
- Demonstrate a high level of numerical skills required to complete the full range of financial transactions
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills at all levels - this post will involve working with senior staff, fieldwork staff, colleagues in the department and members of the public
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
