The post holder will lead the biological specimen team within the Haemato-Oncology Research Unit within the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and our Academic partner Institute of Cancer Research at both Chelsea and Sutton sites. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the seamless delivery of biological specimen management, with oversight and management of Biological Specimen Coordinators, across both sites. The post holder will facilitate the collection and processing of blood and tissue samples for multiple trials within the Haemato-Oncology unit.

This is a pivotal role, and you will be part of a multidisciplinary team including experienced medical and research staff, taking part in an exciting range of clinical research studies. Ideally with previous clinical research experience, you will work within the guidelines and policies for the conduct of clinical trials, ensuring high standards of practice in accordance with the principles of GCP.

The successful applicant will be required to work as a self-directed practitioner and have the skills to motivate others. They should also have a flexible approach to their duties and the ability to work both as part of the team as well as independently. In addition, you will have excellent communication, administrative and IT skills and be supportive and open to new initiatives. Continuous professional development is highly valued and supported.

As the Lead Biospecimen Coordinator, the post holder is responsible for:

- Leading the tissue collecting team working within Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and our Academic partner Institute of Cancer Research at both Chelsea and Sutton sites.
- Ensuring the seamless delivery of biobanking, with oversight and management of members of staff within the department across both sites.
- Ensuring the collection of human samples is undertaken in accordance with the Human Tissue Act (HTA), and proactively support staff to progress their responsibility within the Biobank.
- Providing leadership, drive, and innovative solutions to maintain governance support in the department and promote access to human tissue for research.
- Working directly with senior management to aid the Tissue Bank Manager and Operations Manager to design, develop and deliver the long-term strategy of the CTUUC to enhance governance and actively seek collaborations.

Key areas of responsibility

**As the Lead Biospecimen Coordinator**:

- The post holder will be responsible for the collection and processing of clinical samples (tissue and blood) from multiple units and sites across Royal Marsden and Institute of Cancer Research.
- The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of samples from multi-centre studies hosted by the unit and for the ongoing quality control procedures.
- The post holder will be responsible for the data and quality management and accurate data entry onto the tracking system of all data, in accordance to GCP guidelines.
- The post holder will liaise with clinicians, research nurses, pathologists, and laboratory staff to identify and co-ordinate sample collection.
- The post holder will ensure that the principles of the Human Tissue Act and GCP are always upheld and that all samples collected have appropriate patient consent.
- The post holder will ensure that the integrity of a sample in their care is maintained, and the sample transported to an appropriate storage facility in a timely fashion.
