**Job overview**:
**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The role requires a flexible approach to duties and the ability to remain calm in a busy environment. An essential requirement of the post is an ability to lead a large team and coordinate the phlebotomy services.and to deal with patients in a confidential, professional and sensitive manner. As a Phlebotomy Coordinator you will be expected to work clinically minimum 50% of your contracted hours then organize the training, assessment and supervision of all phlebotomy staff. It is also anticipated that you assist with the assessment and supervision of other clinical staff, learning to be proficient in Venepuncture.

This post is a full time and vacant at the Good Hope Hospital and you will be expected to cover Birmingham Heartlands Hospital & Solihull Hospital Phlebotomy services also. Some cross sites cover will be required as part of both training and service delivery needs and some work at external sites such as GP surgeries and domiciliary visits may be included.

The core working hours are between 07:00 and 17:00 Monday-Friday. In addition weekend and bank holiday cover is by rotation.

**Person specification**:
**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- Minimum of 4 Level 2 Qualifications (CSE Grade 1, O'Level Grade C or GCSE 4 or above) including Maths & English
- Recognised phlebotomy training & successful qualification

**Desirable**:

- Level 3 Managerial or supervisory qualification

**Experience**:
**Essential**:

- Minimum of Four years phlebotomy experience, with at least 2 years as a senior phlebotomist/ phlebotomy supervisor
- Evidence of service development or improvement
- Evidence of training and the supervising of junior staff in venepuncture and other non-arterial blood taking techniques.
- Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral circulatory system

**Additional Criteria**:
**Essential**:

- Ability to undertake venepuncture and other non-arterial blood sampling, using any recognised blood sampling equipment or techniques.
- Able to organise and supervise a team of phlebotomists, delegating where appropriate
- Able to work independently, using own initiative, escalating to senior if required.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to respond to others appropriately.
- Ability to recognise the need to escalate matters to Phlebotomy Manager
- Ability to plan rotas and effective allocate staff as required
- Dynamic & enthusiastic with a desire to deliver high quality service
