**Job summary**:
This is an exciting role at the Commission for Countering Extremism (CCE) for a person that is a self-starter. The post holder will work in a busy Commission on interesting work areas by providing policy support that will contribute towards successful delivery of CCE key objectives agreed with Home Office Ministers and No.10.

About the Commission for Countering Extremism:
Extremism is a complex and multi-faceted threat, that remains high on the public and political agenda.

The CCE operates at Arm’s Length, supporting an independent Commissioner who is a Public Appointee. The CCE’s remit is to provide expert advice that will support government to tackle extremism, whilst offering independent scrutiny and challenge.

We work closely with No.10, HSG Prevent in Home Office, DLUHC and Community Cohesion/Integration, JEXU on prisons, DFE on education, as well as other key OGD partners. Our current priorities include supporting HSG to help implement the recommendations of the Independent Review of Prevent, as well as developing learning across the public sector on extremist ideologies.

The CCE is a small, dynamic, and talented team made up of Home Office civil servants that specialise in policy and strategy, research/analytical, comms and media, with access to expert researchers and academics. The team is based across two offices in Manchester and London. This post will be based at 28 Kirby Street, Farringdon, London.

**Job description**:
This is an interesting time to join the CCE as we deliver the next phase of our work. You will support delivery of policy outcomes and do this by horizon scanning on key extremism issues across central government, public bodies, law enforcement as well as accessing external expertise. This will help to inform key policies, while your briefing skills will support the Commissioner to offer independent scrutiny and challenge.

As part of a multidisciplinary Policy and Strategy team, you will report to the Head of Policy and Strategy. The post holder will be responsible for:

- Coordinating the CCEs work on understanding and implementation of the recently-published Independent Review of Prevent, tracking our contribution and reporting progress to the SMT.
- Horizon scanning on policy challenges on extremism and building effective relationships with key stakeholders across government and wider public bodies.
- Providing expert policy advice and briefings to the Commissioner on a range of topics.
- Potential management responsibility to be agreed with the Head of Policy and Strategy.
- Supporting the team to plan and deliver Commissioner-led meetings and visit programmes.
- The post holder is required to work in a flexible way and undertake any other duties reasonably requested by the line management which are commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post.

We are an Arm’s Length Body of the Home Office. This means that all staff are employed under civil service terms at the Home Office, although the work and priorities are set by the Commissioner.

This role is suitable for hybrid working. Hybrid working enables employees to work partly in their workplace(s) and partly at home. This post is based at 28 Kirby Street London and, in line with HO Hybrid Working policy, there will be flexibility to adopt a hybrid working pattern which would see the post holder spend 40% of their week in the office, with the remainder working from home.

**Person specification**:
**Essential criteria**
- Excellent policy skills including written and verbal communication, with the ability to use different styles as appropriate and to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including at senior levels across government and wider public sector.
- Excellent organisation skills, including good time management and prioritisation.
- The ability to grasp and deliver tasks quickly and effectively in a fast paced, innovative environment.

**Desirable criteria**
- Experience in counter extremism or related high-profile policy areas.
- Experience or qualification in project management.

**Behaviours**:
We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

- Seeing the Big Picture
- Communicating and Influencing
