**Job summary**:
The Communities & Integration Directorate sits at the heart of the government’s aim to level up opportunities for everyone and DLUHC goals to establish socially and economically stronger communities. The Counter-Extremism leads on supporting communities, preventing radicalisation, and tackling social harms to bring people together.

Our work across Whitehall and other government agencies is concentrated on several key areas:

- Countering extremism in communities
- Building societal resilience in communities
- Addressing religious intolerance, communal unrest, and hate crimes.
- Addressing social harms and fostering social resilience.
- Acquiring innovative insights on counter-extremism strategies.

The work is divided into three separate parts, which reflects the directorate's expanding role and the ministers' increased interest in these policies given their close ties to the Levelling Up agenda. Support for counter-extremism spaces in the community and challenges that the stakeholders and communities may find difficult.

The position will be under the section of Societal Resilience & Counter Extremism. As a member of a dedicated team of policy, programme management, and engagement specialists, you will collaborate on a number of highly visible, intricate, and delicate policies and delivery initiatives.

**Job description**:
**Specific duties may include**:

- Overseeing the development, testing, and implementation of counter-extremism workstreams.
- Taking the initiative in Counter-Extremism workstreams to support cross government counter extremism initiatives and assist officials in making consistent choices on external involvement.
- Direct and influence policy commitments that fall to other government departments, ensuring that these are delivered and working with these departments to develop new and ambitious initiatives.
- Develop policy responses at pace to new challenges and an improving evidence base.
- Line management of staff (1x SEO and 1 x HEO, with the team currently in expansion) in a way that improves business performance and builds capability.
- Encourage longer-term thinking about how the government's ideas can be put into practice, how to create the infrastructure needed for governmentwide implementation, and how to get cross-government support for any new policies, including focused assistance and ongoing engagement to meet policy requirements

**Person specification**:
Have strong policy and analytical skills - someone who can quickly assess complex information and identify the key issues.

Can understand evidence presented by researchers and summarise this in a clear way.

Have excellent briefing and communication skills (both oral and written).

Be comfortable briefing ministers and senior officials in person.

Have extensive stakeholder engagement and requires a person who can build and sustain relationships both across Whitehall and with groups outside of government.

An ability to identify political and handling issues associated with policy proposals is essential.

Have experience providing leadership to their team and prioritise work ensuring tight deadlines are met, as this is a fast paced environment role.

Have a proven track record of delivering at pace.

**Behaviours**:
We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

- Making Effective Decisions
