About the Role

Moonshot is seeking a skilled Counter Extremism Analyst to join our team. As a Counter Extremism Analyst, you will play a critical role in gathering and analyzing open-source data to support our clients' understanding of online harms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Identify, collect, and analyze information from various data sources, including social media, violent extremist materials, and other relevant data sources.
  • Research Methodologies: Design and implement quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect and analyze large datasets.
  • Reporting and Presentations: Draft analytical reports to a high standard, delivering valuable findings in a concise and robust manner. Present findings verbally to clients, tailoring the content to their needs.
  • Process Improvement: Anticipate potential barriers to project delivery and identify workable solutions. Take responsibility for improving processes and maintaining databases.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Develop and share subject matter expertise related to violent extremism and online harms across the organization.
  • Client Relationships: Build relationships with clients and support business development by exploring opportunities for new projects.
Requirements
  • Professional Experience: Professional or research experience in countering violent extremism and/or other online harms.
  • Analysis and Investigation: Professional or research experience of carrying out analysis and investigations using OSINT techniques.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to scan large volumes of data and identify valuable pieces of information.
  • Reporting and Communication: Ability to source, interpret, and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data, including social media data, and produce actionable reporting.
  • Time Management: Ability to work under pressure, take action, and get things done, both in managing your own workload and working as part of a team.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Desirable Criteria
  • Language Skills: Fluency in languages other than English.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with/understanding of how to fetch data using software platform APIs and scraping tools.
  • Qualifications: Qualifications in quantitative methods for social science and specialist quantitative skills, including data visualization, database management (SQL), Python, Tableau visualization, or other data analysis tool sets.
  • Experience: Experience in supporting digital communications campaigns, and ideally across one or more of the following topics: social media analysis, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building, interventions.
