Senior College Officer

Edinburgh, United Kingdom The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh Full time

The role of Senior College Officer and its ceremonial duties have been in existence since the 1700s and has an important role to play within the College and in maintaining our heritage.

Whilst reflecting the importance of the public and ceremonial functions of the role, the job description has been brought up to date to clarify the additional organisation and administration responsibilities that are also fundamental aspects in the successful coordination of such events.

This role has two distinct elements so would equally suit an individual who has experience of carrying out formal, public-facing ceremonial duties as well as an individual who has event coordination experience who would be interested in stepping into the public-facing duties as well.

The emphasis is on being able to work collaboratively with colleagues and external venues to ensure the detailed event arrangements are made and communicated effectively to all relevant stakeholders, as well as being able to oversee the carrying out of the precise formal duties required.

How that might look is a balance of evening working for a formal dinner where the College’s Trustees require the wearing of and presentation of ceremonial gowns and medals, or it might be a weekend event leading the President in procession to represent the College at services at St Giles Cathedral.

Flexibility will be key whether you are leading on the ceremonial duties yourself or coordinating for another representative of the College to do so.

You will have an interest in understanding the benefits of membership with the College, as well as experience of administering events and activities that drive engagement from members.

With a high level of professionalism and diplomacy, you will be confident in adapting your communication style to engage with a variety of stakeholders from Members and Fellows, the President, College Council and Directors, as well as third party suppliers.

Please note that we do not accept CV’s and agencies need not apply.
