Senior Clinical Fellow in Neurocritical Care

Oxford, United Kingdom Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

It is expected that the successful applicant will take an active role in the day-to-day running of the Neuro-ICU, including supervising junior colleagues and engaging with the wider MDT. There will be plenty of opportunities for teaching, and quality improvement projects, and a phased introduction into stepping up to daily leadership of the Unit, while always under the supervision of the duty consultants, in preparation for the applicant's future career as a consultant. The role has traditionally carried a very high rate of successful subsequent appointment to Consultant positions.

The successful applicants will participate in twice-daily consultant-led ICU ward rounds, conduct daily clinical reviews of critically unwell patients, and be involved in all aspects of their daily medical care. Excellent communication and documentation skill are required. There is plenty of opportunity for leaning and development of skills under expert supervision, while also teaching and demonstrating these skills to more junior colleagues. The SCF will be part of the airway on-call tier for the Neurosciences ICU, paired with a non-airway JCF tier for out-of-hours cover. The SCF is expected to contribute to the Neuro-ICU's clinical governance, quality improvement, and teaching programmes.

The Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit is a specialist tertiary
- and quaternary-referral ICU within the West Wing, a wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK. The John Radcliffe Hospital is a world-renowned teaching hospital integrating acute and elective services with clinical research and education. The Neuro-ICU works closed with Oxford Critical Care, the Major Trauma Centre, and the Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Specialist Surgery departments to provide both emergency and elective care to patients with intracranial or head and neck diseases.

The Neuro-ICU is a busy ICU but with a strong ethos of learning, equality, and multidisciplinary engagement. The Senior Clinical Fellow are genuinely welcomed, encouraged to bring their own skills and interests to the running of the Unit, and are an essential part of this Consultant-led team.
