Trainee Nuclear Medicine Technologist

The apprenticeship will allow you to complete a 3-year BSc. in Healthcare Science at the University of West England, Bristol. This 3-year course (from September 2024) will combine face-to-face, work-based, and online learning, with three 5-day blocks at UWE Bristol in each year to attend seminars. Upon completing the degree apprenticeship, all relevant qualifications, and becoming registered with the RCT, the postholders grade will be uplifted to Band 5 Nuclear Medicine Technologist position.
Participate in the daily quality control of the gamma camera systems and other nuclear medicine equipment. To perform general nuclear medicine scans and procedures under the direct supervision of registered radiographers or technologists. To process images using the relevant SOPs under the supervision of registered radiographers or technologists Become and remain competent at image manipulation. To maintain the high standard of appearance and hygiene expected from members of the Directorate staff and to comply with the uniform policy.
To work as a team player by supporting colleagues and offering assistance where possible To carry out monitoring for radioactive contamination of the work area, record results and remove contamination where possible. To carry out monitoring of radioactive waste and ensure correct disposal as specified in the radioactive waste procedure for the department. To participate in the extended working day, and weekend working as appropriate. Liaise with clinicians, ward staff and patients concerning preparation for imaging and patient management, ensuring that the patient pathway operates effectively.
