**Job summary**:
Finance is at the heart of decision making in the Department for Business and Trade.

Following the Machinery of Government changes and the formation of the Department for Business and Trade, DBT’s Finance Continuous Improvement team is being expanded to build additional capacity, reflecting the expanded remit of the Finance Function.

The Finance Continuous Improvement function identifies and implements improvements to our systems and processes to provide more capacity for colleagues to deliver their priorities. The team draws on best practice from DBT’s Change Directorate as well as wider government networks.

The role is one of three G7 project leads in the Continuous Improvement team and reports into the Head of Continuous Improvement. The role entails helping to set the strategy and direction of the team as well as jointly leading the team’s work to deliver process improvements.

**Job description**:
**Key responsibilities**:

- Work closely with other G7 project leads as well as the Head of Continuous Improvement and the Finance Senior Leadership Team to identify opportunities for improvements and create and develop efficient and effective financial systems and processes.
- Contribute to refining the methodology to prioritise work and allocate resource across projects, continually assessing and reviewing the work to ensure the effective delivery of improvements that contribute to the improvement of the whole finance system.
- Review and re-engineer finance processes, controls and systems where there is waste in the system and/or opportunities for streamlining, ensuring that changes made within one part of the system do not have a negative impact elsewhere.
- Take the lead on data workstreams within the Continuous Improvement work programme, developing ways to exploit finance data and provide insight to help make improvements to the delivery of finance services.
- Championing change, helping to deliver continuous improvement as well as supporting wider transformation efforts by working closely with the Future Shared Services and ERP team which is tasked with delivering a new ERP for the department, as well as drawing on expertise within DBT’s Change Directorate.
- Enabling and managing change that allows more flexibility, responsiveness and improved service delivery and user experience.
- Work across DBT to drive a continuous improvement culture and provide expert advice to stakeholders within the organisation and government.
- Liaise with cross-government networks working on process improvements.
- Line management of a SEO/HEO to deliver Continuous Improvement work that makes a real difference to working in DBT.

- Managing business or process change using the appropriate tools and techniques.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to promote team cohesion.
- Strong communication and presentation skills and able to communicate at all levels and areas of expertise.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills to build collaborative relationships with a range of people and teams.
- Engaging and influencing colleagues to accept and support change.
- Highly developed planning and organisational skills in a financial environment.
- Effective personal resilience to work flexibly and adapt to changing priorities to meet the organisation's outcomes.
- Embedding change and realising benefits across a complex working environment.

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Experience building capability across teams and functions.
- Project Management experience.
- Continuous Improvement experience.
- Experience in working with large datasets using tools such as SQL, Python or R.
- A full or partial CCAB qualification or equivalent - or equivalent experience and/or training in continuous improvement, Kaizen or Lean/Six Sigma techniques.
