The Role

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated researcher with a background in social science (or closely related discipline) and experience of range of qualitative methods to contribute to the development of multidisciplinary ageing research.
You will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of a range of applied health research projects related to ageing. You will be part of a multidisciplinary teams working across different clinical specialties and will contribute to the design, conduct and dissemination of a research. The portfolio of work will also include undertaking secondary analysis on existing qualitative data sets and writing these up for publication.

This is a fixed-term post for 26 months.

Key Accountabilities
Work with Professor Katie Brittain and colleagues within the Population Health Sciences Institute and Faculty of Medical Sciences to develop and deliver a range of applied health research projects related to ageing
Be part of a multidisciplinary teams working across different clinical specialties and will contribute to the design, conduct and dissemination of research
Carry out research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and to an appropriate standard

Undertake secondary analysis and writing-up of existing qualitative data sets
Attend meetings and other events appropriate to the projects
Prepare papers for publication, and disseminate findings at conferences as required
Identify and undertake a programme of professional development, including further training in additional research methods and other transferable skills
Carry out administrative tasks and other duties to support social science and/or qualitative research methods within the Institute as required

The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Knowledge of the design, conduct and reporting of applied qualitative health research using a range of methodological and theoretical approaches
Knowledge and experience of working with older people and conducting research within health care settings with both patients and informal carers as well as clinicians
Experience of successfully working and as part of multidisciplinary research teams
Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrable ability to work in a range of education settings and situations
Experience of delivering research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and producing research to an appropriate standard
Evidence of successfully writing for peer reviewed publications and present findings at conferences
Knowledge of relevant qualitative research software packages
Experience of preparing research proposals and securing grant income
Desirable
Experience of conducting qualitative research in ageing
Knowledge and experience of conducting secondary analysis of qualitative data
Evidence of an understanding of the conduct of qualitative evidence synthesis
