Would you like to influence Scotland’s landscape and rich resources and influence how trees, woodlands and forests can contribute to its diverse character and long term sustainability? Scottish Forestry is seeking to recruit a Forest Planning advisor to provide professional advice within the organisation and to key Stakeholders. Scottish Forestry is the new Scottish Government agency responsible for forestry policy, support and regulations. The post lies within the Sustainable Forest Management team which is responsible for promoting best practice on a wide range of environmental issues, including landscape, climate change, cultural heritage, water, soil and biodiversity. The post will support delivery of Scotland’s new Forestry Strategy.

**Experience**

Essential:

- Experience of planning large scale land use changes in a rural setting
- Experience of the land use sector
- Experience of preparing, communicating and presenting ideas visually, written and verbally in an engaging manner that is relevant to the audience
- Experience of working with others, influencing clients or stakeholders, and an ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal colleagues and external interests

Desirable:

- Experience as a landscape architect in the land use sector
- Experience of forestry
- Experience in running engaging training events
- Experience of commissioning work, contract management and dissemination of outputs

**Technical**

Essential:

- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office software
- Experience and technical knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment and Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment
- Technical knowledge of the principles of forest planning and forest landscape design

Desirable:

- Chartered Landscape Architect
- Chartered Forester (or willing to work towards membership)
- Technical knowledge of forestry and/or other land uses
- Experience and technical knowledge of Map Maker Prospect forestry visualisation software
- Knowledge and experience of the historic environment and information resources
