**Job summary**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Molecular Pathology at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the department in a fixed term post to assist in the new LIMS project within the Molecular Pathology department. MPDS is one of the largest solid tumour genetic-profiling centre's in Europe, processing around 24,000 samples a year. The service provides a range of molecular pathology tests including protein expression, gene mutation, methylation and amplification, and chromosome translocation. The service also provides a circulating tumour DNA service for EGFR mutation analysis. Services are provided for wide range of regional and supra-regional Trusts, being a referral centre, and as such there will be an opportunity to also participate in research and development.

The department has huge expertise in various technologies including real time PCR, pyrosequencing, FISH, immunohistochemistry and next generation sequencing (NGS). The post holder will be joining a dedicated team including scientists and technicians to help develop and implement the new LIMS within the Birmingham and Solihull Pathology network.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- GCSE in English, Maths and Science
- A Levels or equivalent to facilitate entry to degree level study if required.
- BSc (Hons) or equivalent experience ideally in Information Technology or Science

**Experience**:
**Essential**:

- Experience of working in a team
- Evidence of wide and varied experience in a clinical Microbiology laboratory
- Extensive experience of word processing and spreadsheets

**Desirable**:

- Extensive experience of clinical laboratory information systems

**Additional Criteria**:
**Essential**:

- Numerate and able to undertake scientific calculations with and without the use of aids.
- Demonstrate good manual dexterity, keyboard and mouse skills.
- Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and with all Staff Groups internal to the Trust or Professionals external to the Trust.
- Excellent written presentation.
- Demonstrate prioritisation, organisational and co-ordination skills.
- Demonstrate logical thought processes, ability to use initiative and solve problems.
- Ability to make concise records of action, monitor and report on those plans appropriately.
