Vacancy Overview: Permanent position, 36.5 hours per week.

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Semiconductor Process Engineer to support microfabrication and semiconductor research. This will include work undertaken individually and as part of the wider user community.

You will conduct and support experimental research on microfabrication for all materials using the cleanroom, working across departments with staff, students and external parties to ensure the cleanroom operations and fabrication processes are optimised.You will participate in and take responsibility for cleanroom H&S, best practice and housekeeping plus contribute to research, publications and generate ideas for new avenues of enquiry.

You must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative and manage a small team/project or coordinate multiple projects.

**Job Description**:
To conduct and support experimental research on microfabrication for all materials using the cleanroom. To work across departments with staff, students and external parties to ensure the cleanroom operations and fabrication processes are optimised. To participatein and take responsibility for cleanroom H&S, best practice and housekeeping. To contribute to research, publications and generate ideas for new avenues of enquiry.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Semiconductor device fabrication
- Coordinate the provision of technical fabrication support to research activities and project work.
- This will involve fabrication of devices and test structures from a range of materials.
- The processing of materials (III-V, SiC and other novel materials) into test structure and devices as required for internal and external users.
- Maintenance of basic fabrication processes and the generation of appropriate control charts.
- Development of new fabrication processes and techniques with users.
- Involvement in fault finding or troubleshooting on cleanroom process failures, malfunctions and inconsistencies through to implementation of solutions.

2. Maintaining and developing the cleanroom infrastructure and capability
- This will cover a wide range of duties to ensure the efficient running and monitoring of the cleanroom infrastructure and its associated equipment.
- Routine calibration of process equipment.
- Assessment and commissioning of new process tools.
- The continuous implementation of a safe working environment.

3. Providing support to cleanroom operations
- To co-ordinate with other cleanroom and technical staff where appropriate.
- This will include duties to provide the efficient and safe execution of clean room operations, ensuring work areas are well maintained to a high standard.
- The provision of training to users on general device fabrication techniques.
- The provision of training on the use of specific equipment and tools.
- Consult and liaise on the design, development, construction/manufacture, operation, testing and maintenance of apparatus/equipment/precision instruments.

4. New business and research liaison
- To maintain records and knowledge of internal and external use of the facility and provide liaison with users and other groups such as Warwick Scientific Services
- To organise user community events, training and interact with external fabrication networks.
- To identify and take advantage of opportunities for collaboration (in Warwick, elsewhere in the UK, and internationally) in order to access specialist equipment, and to work with collaborators on joint research projects.
- Liaise with external users on visits and events taking responsibility for organisation and provision of technical support to visits and events.
- To update personal technical knowledge and understanding on a continual basis, and to use this knowledge to initiate new areas of research activity.

5. Administration and Other Activities
- To contribute to School of Engineering committees and administrative duties and tasks.
- Work within budget constraints.
- To ensure compliance with Health and Safety, and other University regulations and good working practices in all aspects of work.

The duties and responsibilities outlined are for guidance on the main aspects of the job. The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their duties. Occasional weekend, evening and overseas working may be required, in turn the School offers flexibleworking where possible.
