This is a new role created to work with the IPC team this will involve working closely with all members of our team, inpatient units in our community hospitals and mental health units. This presents the opportunity for the successful applicant to develop relationships that will promote the importance of IPC in every aspect of patient care. The successful applicant will be supported to steer their own development and that of the nursing associate role within IPC.

Day to day you will be working to monitor prevalence of infections within DHC and play an active role in reducing these by liaising with inpatient units. You will provide initial advice as per the National IPC Manual and follow up progress on advise and patient management with the support of our IPC nurses.

The role will also involve supporting the IPC team and inpatient areas during outbreak situations which will involve visiting the wards.

Audits are a requirement of the IPC team to ensure best practise is adopted and provide assurance to the board. You will play a part in this process to ensure early detection of trends, identify any quality improvement needs and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

Learning and development is a priority in the IPC team and you will be supported to develop your IPC knowledge to meet the needs of this role.

Surveillance - using ICNet to monitor prevalence of infections within DHC. Provide advice and support for clinical areas with information gained.

Compile reports using ICNet.

Participate in outbreak meetings, link practitioner meetings, IPC team meetings

Link nurse education, ad hoc education for inpatient areas.

Utilising clinical systems to gather and share information

Carry out fit qualitative testing for clinical staff.

Ensuring all information and communication is fed back to IPC team
