Applications are invited for a 8 session Consultant Haematology with a special interest in Haemostasis at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is a new appointment to join 4 other Consultant Haematologists. The post holder will be asked to advise on in patient care as required but will not assume full clinical responsibility for any patients admitted. There is occasionally need for liaison with consultant paediatricians in the provision of paediatric haematology services.

The post holder is required to ensure, in consultation with colleagues, that adequate arrangements are made for cover of leave and off-duty periods. The internal cover when one consultant is away is to be cross covered by other consultants. The post holder must have a general haematological knowledge with specialist training and experience in haemostasis and ability to give advice for haemostasis problems across the hospital. It is hoped that the post holder could also develop a combined obstetric haemostasis clinic and run occasional clinics with an obstetrician.

The interview date is expected to be 7th February 2023.

The post holder will provide clinical and laboratory advice and leadership to medical and nursing staff within the hospital as well as health professionals in the primary care in collaboration with the other consultant haematologists.

The post holder will also have laboratory responsibilities to support blood film reporting and bone marrow reporting. They would also be asked to attend combined sign out sessions with the other consultants for bone marrows in accordance with UKAS specifications. The post will not have on call requirements, but consultant supervision of the haematology laboratory will be needed in association with the other consultant colleagues. Assistance with clinical pathology problems of consultant and junior medical staff within working hours will be expected.
