AWE are looking for a Head of Community Engagement for our infrastructure programme. This position will be part of the Corporate Affairs Leadership team.

The Head of Community Engagement will provide overall leadership and direction for all community engagement activities for AWE’s infrastructure programme. The role will direct, manage and influence engagement with the local community to build awareness and understanding of the infrastructure programme to support both formal and informal consenting and consultation processes. The role has overall accountability for defining the strategic plan and delivery of proactive and reactive engagement to build and maintain understanding of the programme, creating an environment in which it can be delivered.

Location - Reading / Basingstoke area

What will you be required to do?
- Develop and oversee delivery of a local community engagement strategy that is fully aligned to both AWE’s corporate and responsible business objectives, as well as the infrastructure programme’s Communication and Consenting strategies
- Lead, manage and develop the infrastructure programme Community Engagement team with clear objectives and development, linked to the delivery of local community engagement objectives
- Overall responsibility for conflict resolution with the local community when matters arise
- Responsible for creating and overseeing a 24-hour response helpline to manage questions and complaints from the local community, ensuring that this is integrated into existing AWE processes, creating clear protocols for escalation and handling
- Work closely with the Head of Communications for the infrastructure programme and Head of External Communications to ensure strategies, messaging and activity align and that each workstream enhances and complements the other
- Oversee the development of evaluation metrics to measure the effectiveness and impact of engagement, to drive continuous improvement across the lifetime of the programme
- Responsible for attending AWE’s Local Liaison Committee, as the main contact for the infrastructure programme and acting as their main port of call for the programme
- Plan the local community engagement budget and manage activities within forecasts, ensuring best value for money
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Strong influencing and relationship building skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences, as well as building confidence
- Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and mediation skills
- Application of digital and non-digital community engagement tools, techniques and practices Understanding of consenting processes and accompanying legislation
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Demonstrated passion for community development and sustainability
- Extensive and proven experience of designing and delivering effective community engagement strategies within projects of the infrastructure or urban development sector
- Experience of managing and developing productive relationships with local communities, local businesses and their representatives
